Jason-Alaska 0 Posted January 24, 2002 I'm running a P4 1.8 Ghz with a DSL connection, 1.5mbps download 500+kbps upload. And I've got 512 megs of ram. I'm running Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). Can I set this machine up to be a dedicated server? Or is Windows 2000/XP required? I did read the awesome FAQ about dedicated servers over at Operation Flashpoint Network: http://www.3dactionplanet.com/flashpoint/deddyinfo.htm But I can't believe my configuration wont work for it. Thanks for any and all help!
Placebo 29 Posted January 24, 2002 As far as I'm aware all windows versions can run a deddy server, though it would probably be better if it's going to be up for a while to use 2k or XP as they can stay up for days if not weeks with no need for rebooting (memory leaks etc.)
Jason-Alaska 0 Posted January 24, 2002 Wow Placebo! You didn't even let my message cool off! Fast response buddy. Thanks for the info. I'll give it a go this weekend.

suchey 0 Posted January 24, 2002 As he said, it should work, but you may want to consider using windows 2000 as its a bit more stable for a ded. server
FetishFool 0 Posted January 24, 2002 XP is the way to go. But an ADSL connection was too slow to host a server for any more than 6 players. 512 SDRAM would be eaten in minutes, too. If you have DDRAM, then excellent!
Jason-Alaska 0 Posted January 24, 2002 Thanks for all the advice! I've only got 3 guys playing on this server anyway so we should be okay. Thanks again!
