Quote[/b] ]gollum... you fail to note that that C8 the british use comes with an optical sight and extendable buttstock as standard...

It comes with a removable carry handle as standard, altough an Elcan sight is usually used in its place, at least by all other forces that use the C7/C8. Are you saying that SAS C8s are shipped with Trijicon ACOGs included? Doesn't seem very standard to me, but what do I know.

Quote[/b] ]more to the point, arent you scraping the barrel some what by considering the extendable buttstock as a 'pimpage' item, when M4's and C8's use them as standard?

You're absolutely right. I just wanted to include it since it is often considered a "tactical" feature.

Quote[/b] ]next thing you'd suggest is the magazine, or perhaps the firing pin... whatever next whistle.gif

Interesting that you should mention those more mundande parts, since, as I already mentioned, this photo shows SAS using 10.5" barrels on their AR-15s. No Diemaco (nowadays Colt Canada Corp. I guess) weapon that I know of has a barrel of that length as standard. Another example of customization.

And is that a vertical grip I see? Furthermore, what's that fuzzy extra magwell? Some kind of ready-mag system?

This is becoming awfully technical, isn't it. wink_o.gif

hardly... i did mention that on rare occasions i've read of some customisation... but lets look at it retrospecitivly - pretty much every wing of the US army seems to be customising its weapons in some form or another, i'm normally more suprised if they havnt been customised. Besides the odd diemaco, the british seem to enjoy the KISS, couple with the fact that it would probably break the SA80 biggrin_o.gif

as for what comes as standard, my advisor, when making our diemacos, imformed me that the diemaco's purchased (and yes, now colt canada) always came with the elcan sight, which was discarded in favour of the ACOG or the AR15 ironsights from their older weapons....

one thing that slipper my mind, and could explain that photo before, would be the newly formed 'SFSG' (special forces support group) who have been now activly fighting with the americans, often (as reports say) using their uniform and weapons to blend in... i've got a more recent picture from the lynx crash showing a guy i'd also suspect to be part of SFSG using one of the same weapons you describe...

double mag/speed loaders are another thing i dont consider a 'pimp' addition... you can do the same with a bit of sniper tape, and thats not exactly fancy tounge2.gif

When I had my last night firing exercise I taped my Peli M6 Lithium flashlight onto my G36. I was able to turn it on or off with my left thumb, because the Peli M6 has an on/off switch at its bottom. It looked a bit strange but it worked. If you have to go into a dark house without NV that is an option, but you better make sure that you can remove the flashlight properly from your rifle without damaging it.  whistle.gif

Would be interesting if you could post/link to this picture. smile_o.gif

I thought the SFSG was supposed to be operational in 2008 at the earliest? Well, who knows with these special units. If that Brit in the picture is trying to blend in, he certainly isn't doing a very good job of it. tounge2.gif

think its fairly obvious which one im refering to biggrin_o.gif

from all accounts they have been very active in iraq already... its all speculation of course, as they could be any of the british special forces

(and now as i post this, i just realised the guy behind him shooting through the fence seems to have an diemaco or a weapon similiar to that - and does the guy in the foreground have an eotech?)

The Diemaco is standard issue to the British SpecOps, right? I cant tell what optic that is, the picture is too small.

edit: please do not quote images

cough http://www.diemaco.com/cqb-page.htm cough

its a 10 inch barrel by the way not 10.5 and yes the extra mags well is a ready mag.

I guess that "light and easy" is the reason you don't see SAS carrying around equipment that can only be used at night together with NVG's(IR pointer) mounted on the weapon.

@messiah: seems to me that it is a ACOG not a eotech also looks like he is carrying a peq-2.
