EiZei 0 Posted April 3, 2006 I think BIS did some good steps to give people the "bad guys" according to their taste without insulting Russia - renegade general acting against his own state, remote archipelago, Soviet government denying his actions. Russians can still feel insulted, but it's complicated matter very tightly bound to historical development of Russian state and culture. As Sanctuary said, answers can be found in history textbooks. Well, it's been a while since I played it last time but I recall resistance campaign having soviets invade nogova with the permission from up high.
Edge 2 Posted April 3, 2006 Quote[/b] ]Well, it's been a while since I played it last time but I recall resistance campaign having soviets invade nogova with the permission from up high. Oops, almost forgot. I meant CWC campaign, please forgive me if you can. Now as you speak of it, I recall comebody of BIS stating that inspiration for Resistance story was the "help against contrarevolution" Soviets so generously granted Czechoslovakia in 1968. I never said Soviet reputation as "bad guy" is not well deserved.
-Ash- 0 Posted April 3, 2006 CWC was based in 1985 when effectively the USSR was still the biggest threat to the west..
simba 0 Posted April 8, 2006 Quote[/b] ] I know I'm pretty much alone in this opinion, but I'd like to see a story that's a lot more grey instead of black and white. No "good guys", no "bad guys". No freedom-sqealing Americans and no bloodthirsty Soviets. I'd like to see a real dirty war story, where the "good guys" are no better than the "bad guys", where government propaganda is replaced by the attitudes of soldiers, without the usual mindless drones that run around yelling "For El Presidente!" or something equally disturbing. There are a shitload of movies that use that kind of stories, but why are there no games? totally agree on that , i'm really getting sick of the good side is american side in ofp and it seems this is gonna be the same in arma. If some people at BIS feel like taking a little revenge on history, they should think a little more global , i'm pretty sure some people would be upset by the new peacekeeping role of our new hereo william Porter. Quote[/b] ] The south part of Sahrani where we are is a young country ruled by a king (a monarchy) that apparently gets along with us, and they’ve asked us for help because frankly, they’re afraid of their northern neighbor. The area is pretty secure, and the border and the political situation are quiet, but I guess anything can happen, and having a larger, quiet neighbor with lots of guns and nothing much to do with them can be pretty frightening, and so here we are glad to see that american can still choose their friends, when i think that I'm gonna virtually fight for this ... let's hope this story is a bit more complicated than it seems. Kendo J 1 Posted April 12, 2006 don't forget everyone... OFP was three original campaigns. in the first you were west and russia were the baddies.. but you also play for russia in red hammer where the west are evil american capiatlist pig dogs. Don't forget Guba is a renagade russian not a member of the USSR policy after he takes command for himslef. anyhow... enough remenisicing, i always use west units as good guys in my missions cos i prefer thier weapons to the stock AK. However, an AK is much more usefull in confined environments such as the jungle. if i were in the desert i would prefer a long rifle like an FN as the SAS used in the 70's in Oman (anyone remember that conflict?) kendo
