Guest Ti0n3r Posted March 11, 2006 Woho the seventyeleventh PC thread in offtopic! Now, @ GPU, 2x 7800 GTX 512MB Do you really need all that power? That's like 600$, right?
Artak 0 Posted March 11, 2006 Obviously money isn't the thing for you and you're not looking for the best price/performance average here.. All those parts seem good to me, awesome to be honest, and I'm way out of my league to tell which you could change for any better ones. However, I got this to say. You seem to be planning a RAID array. Most motherboard integraded RAID controllers are shiaat and according to some sources can even pull down performance. Talking about RAID 0 here. If you want to push your wallet even further you should get a real RAID controller card too.
EiZei 0 Posted March 11, 2006 I still am unable to see the point in Raid0, marginal performance benefits and very bad fault tolerance (one of the hard drives go down, everything is lost - not a very appealing idea with the drives of today).
feersum.endjinn 6 Posted March 11, 2006 Dual core systems have quite a lot of compatibility issues with older games and drivers that can't cope with timing issues caused by parallel execution of threads. Most of them can be solved by forcing process to use just only CPU (CPU affinity). It sometimes doesn't work with copyprotected games though. AMD64 X2 4400+ here, many Unreal Engine games are just plain broken. Bad programmers, bad!
j w 0 Posted March 11, 2006 WATERCOOLING!!! Sorry for shouting. Heh, some of you are not on a budget
Mr_Tea 0 Posted March 11, 2006 Why 4x512 MB RAM, instead of 2x1024 MB @ Dual Channel that would be faster?
Placebo 29 Posted March 11, 2006 Enough of these threads already, unless people start taking advantage of existing PC threads we may have to look at putting a stop to them altogether, we don't need a new PC/upgrade thread every week.
