MAPFACT Barracks LOD Problem inside

Recommended Posts

I got a serious and problematic question, with the MAPFACT Barracks buildings pack.

All of the tables, chairs, beds, and radio equipment don't show up.  I can only see them when I right click to zoom in, and even then that doesn't work sometimes.

My PC specs are P III 800mhz, 256 meg ram, TNT2 vid card, Win ME, and running the game with a geo performance level of 1500.

Anyone have a definite answer on why this is happening?

If you mean the in-game video options, I've tried that already.  I bumped it up to 9 and only got it to show a couple of times and it only lasted briefly.  The older MAPFACT barracks addon worked just fine, but this one seems to be a royal pain.

BTW, my TNT2 is a hell of a lot better quality than that newer 2002-3 ATI RADEON crap put in some 1.8 P4's I tested a couple of years ago.

Try upping your object LOD in FlashpointPreferences.exe (remember, the smaller the LOD number, the higher the polycount)

visual quality up, frame rate down. if that doesn't help... ugh. we're working on some updates (for a long time now). wink_o.gif

Well, I'm afraid that in this case TNT2 is the factor that needs to be updated the most. No pun intended. sad_o.gif

i seem to recall that the Mapfact team did that on purpose, they remove insides when not near barracks, to increase performance

If there are too many objects on the map, the computer will automaticly force the model into a lower LOD level. If your visual quality is on full, then you can blame a large number of objects placed on the map.

Personly, I use these addons often and never encounter problems yay.gif

I've narowed down the problem to just the Barracks building in the MAPFACT Bracken pack. The other buildings work fine now with some minor adjustments. Did the updated version delete all the bunks and stuff in the Barracks building?

nope. they are there, but only in the first lod(s). did you set your ofp video options to a "small" framrate?

@ Shinkansen - which file and code line (within the PBO) are LOD numbers underneath? I want to change my HYK/FFUR infantry so they don't drop down a level from 5m away.

Hi, when you unpbo an addon, you can load it into Oxygen, there you see the different lods like geo lod, view geo lod, landcontact and so on and the lods that are important for this problem the view lods like 0.000, 3.000 5.200 and so on. This has something to do with the view distance and detail level. arranging this numbers can help a lot, for example a building with 0.000 has a lot of details and proxys for the interior, next lod is 1.000 with less details and no proxys for interior. If the computer is too busy the objects will drop down from 0.000 to 1.000 ingame. Most often because an the map are objects and or addons that has only one lod. This can be avioded by changing the 1.000 to a higher number to force OFP engine to reduce detail level of other addons first.

LOD numbers are defined in P3D models themselves, not in any code. They have to be edited in O2. Usually, you won't be able to change them, since most released models are in ODOL format, which means you cannot open them in O2 (unless you use ODOLex, which is a whole different story and you usuallly end up with seriously screwed up .p3ds).

So short answer is forget about it. whistle.gif
