Major installation error

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

I'm new to the boards and everything, and hopefully if I'm able to fix my Flashpoint, I might be able to stick around. Anyway, onto the problem:

I acquired some time ago GOTY and since a couple of friends and I are going to give OFPRP a try, I needed to install onto my laptop. My laptop meets all the requirements to play.

So I put in the discs and for the first two, and everything is going normally. Except when I get to the third disc, I hit a wall. The third disc actually deletes files and then tells me that there was a problem with setup.

I'm at a loss of words as to why it screwed up like this and I'm on the verge of purchasing a new copy - I just want to see if there's any way to fix this.

Now, I did install it myself; I installed the first two discs, moved the files to desktop, then cancelled installation. Everything was set, and the game started to play. I saw 'Codemasters', then a box pops up saying 'Bad serial key at setup'. So, if there's any way to put in the CD key without engaging in setup, that'd be great.

I contacted tech support and they told me to update the firmware for my CD drive or something. Turns out my CD drive was made by a company that makes terminals 'n stuff.

So, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I never tried this but have you tried copying the files from the disk to your HD and run the setup from there? Ive seen this procedure mentioned around here more than once.

Should do the trick, good luck and welcome.gif .

Why didn't I think of that before? Thanks a ton. notworthy.gif

+ Er, hate to sound like a n00b, but how do I get to the other discs? i.e., how do I get setup to recognize 2 & 3 on my HD?

My OPFR isnt the goty one so i really dont know how instalation works there, your saying setup ask's you to insert all disks in order to finish full instalation?

Like when disk one is done it asks you to instal #2? If thats the case it might be a bit more complicated but still possible if it gives you the option to type the path of where the CD content is located at ( in this case the folder where you copied the cd files to) smile_o.gif .

It's a miracle. I decided to give setup one last try before giving up. And it worked! Thanks for your help anyway, Heatseeker. thumbs-up.gif

I had the same issue with CD3.

I tried alot, but the best sollution was to make an image of it in CloneCD, and then mount it with Deamon or similar program.

Now I can store my Discs in a safe place, and install OFP from my fileserver biggrin_o.gif
