-)rStrangelove 0 Posted September 13, 2005 Hi gents, i've been searching the inet for some time now, have great trouble finding some detailed reports of historic seal/udt missions. Had the idea of DLing the classic 'Seal Team' game from EA (1993) and working myself thru it - there were historic aftermission reports included. If anyone has anything for me (docs, links, jpg's of book pages) it would be great. I'm planning to script a VC/Nva AI when AAssault is out. By reading more seal resources i want to make sure the mission concepts / AI reaction concepts are somewhat realistic. If everything goes as i imagine i end up with some kind of 'dynamic seal campaign ai' (west side seal team players coop against east and resistance side vc/nva). Thx for reading
DB-ERAUPilot 0 Posted September 13, 2005 some books I would recommend for you would be the books by Gary R. Smith, he was a SEAL during Vietnam with UDT-12 & SEAL Team 1 the books are: Death In The Jungle: Diary of a Navy SEAL Death In The Delta: Diary of a Navy SEAL Master Chief: Diary of a Navy SEAL all are GREAT reads and he covers some of the missions he went on in pretty good detail..you can prolly still find most them around in your local bookstore..if ur in the states that is... ebud 18 Posted September 13, 2005 I'd suggest Free Fire Zones: Seal Missions by Kevin Dockey. Best I've seen for showing you maps of exactly where the missions took place, what happened, loadouts, etc. It contains a lot of stuff for a mission maker can use without having to read a lot of details you don't need to concern yourself with unless you want a good book to read. If all you need are locations, mission details, maps, etc. This, for me, is the best book you can get. One more is SEALs : UDT/ SEAL Operations In Vietnam. THis one is even more clinical and leaves out much of the BS and storytelling and gets more into the operational level details. THis one spans the entire war, so it tends to leave out details, but it tells you about literally hundreds of missions that took place. Again, it's more of a history book than a "there I was.." book. Or you can get a copy of Seal Team and use those mission briefings and debriefings. Works great, but playing through the thing just so I could take screenshots of the mission location maps and briefings was a bore. Loved it waaay back when, but painful (visually) now to play. Soldat32 0 Posted September 14, 2005 The old EA classic game "Seal team" is by far one of my all time favorite games.Damn shame that the sequel to it was canned right before its release.

-)rStrangelove 0 Posted September 14, 2005 Thx guys, infos appreciated. I'm in Germany btw. Already have the 'Seals:UDT/Seal ops in nam' book, very good read. Will look out for the other suggestions. About the 'SealTeam' game: i was able to locate the historical mission txts in the Str.lib file. So no need to play thru it all the way (i agree it would be painful). Again, thx for suggestions. If you have any suggestions for a vietcong ai let me know.
Shinbusan 0 Posted September 18, 2005 Great project. When SEB NAM was published, I emailed to SEB about remaking SEAL TEAM as a campaign (But I guess they weren't interested in campaigns / had own problems). Because I agree it is one of the best games ever made (for me, first place has been taken by OFP). I hope ArmA will be a good tool to make own AI.
The_Captain 0 Posted November 3, 2005 To revive an old topic: We're discussing/working on a Seal team campaign in the Vietnam The Experience/ PMC Tactical forums. You can put in some input or help out over there: http://flashpoint.nekromantix.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1130458022 Seal team was one of my favorites a few years ago when I got my old 486 up and running. I managed to get the full boxed game and printed manual off ebay for $10 back then too.. quite a steal. Great manual, which you can also find in PDF format if you look around. I didn't know you could get the historical texts from the str.lib! I'll go try that now. I've been working on and off on a grand Seal game in ofp for a few years now (ever since NP1!, but I've scaled things back to get something more manageable done. The "Seven Mountains" map in VTE is a semi-faithful reproduction of the Chau Doc region of south vietnam, complete with a great mangrove swamp and other goodies! Ai have severe trouble on the rivers with boats, but then, don't they always? The undergrowth and object usage is the best I've seen yet, but there's still a problem with AI shooting through bushes at long range. Also, CSJ has been working hard on a Seawolf pack with many many variants to supplement his Huey pack, and also made an ATC (Or, HSSC as the Seals called it...). The Seawolves are in a nice dark color scheme with a *lot* of weapon options and a big white NAVY on the tail, and helicopters can even land on the HSSC roof! Lots of great stuff being cooked up for Vietnam Seal ops. The SEALs: UDT/Seals ops book has been one of my 'bibles' for a while now. Glad you guys are enjoying it also. -)rStrangelove 0 Posted November 4, 2005 hey, thx for the link Captain. I'll be there. about the Str.Lib: the texts are there, but are among others near the end of the file, also hard to find because there are sooo many 'false' numbers and other ascii texts between the real text. You'd need a hex editor and filter those out.  about VTE: DLing the latest version as we speak  about the books: i bought Harry Constance - Good to Go and Chief James Watson - Point Man. I'm thru with point man yet, have to say it's a great read. came up with 2 pages of notes, it's also pretty useful for a seal campaign.
