Korea Map?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for an island that has a Korea-type feel to use with the Chinese Army Addon Pack. I know there is one island that is supposed to be like taiwan, but the islands are too small.

Korea has never been considered good tank country. It's very hilly and most of the flat parts have rice paddies. confused_o.gif

Uhm, that's half true. Plus, considering the sheer amount of armor in country (on both sides) battles such as this would break out. Keep in mind that when the north invaded the south, the primary weapon was the ole t-34.

Trust me, there's plety of room for armor in them thar hills.

It would definately be nice to see a North Korean island and some North Korean units...we've got most of the vehicles they use already from various mods...Im sure it would get alot more usage than all these fake islands that haven't seen a single mission made on them.... whistle.gif

I think it would simply be an excellent simulation of a very real possibility. A conventional war in Korea sometime soon.

There's actually not a whole lot of armor in country. South Korea only has a handful of armored and mech brigades, plus a tank battalion for each infantry division. The US doesn't have any tanks there anymore, though a brigade could probably show up within a week. North Korea has some tank forces, but not many compared to the rest of the North Korean People's Army. Only some 120,000 men in their tank force while their special operations forces number some 150,000.

Ask any body, even the tank grogs - Korea isn't good tank country. Even in the first war there were very few tank-on-tank actions. Most of it was tanks supporting infantry, even when the war was mobile (as opposed to the static years after the Chinese arrived).

Okay, I believe you, however I was reading a book by a guy who had served with and was the exec of 2-72 armor over there and his book utilized armor quite a bit. Regardless, like the guy above me said, its a real gap in the OFP island depository.

Okay, charlie mike,

John F. Antal. I've talked with the man many times. Very cool guy.

In Korea the US Army had two tank battalions until recently. That's not much. Two tank battalions in a war that would likely involve several million people is next to nothing... wink_o.gif

That's more then the Australian Army currently we are fielding about 50-60 m1a1 tanks in one regiment which makes up the armour component of our "mechanised" brigade and a handful of m1a1s in our armour training school, and if you go north in Australia the terrain is suited for tank, mechanised infantry and rapid moving militrary formations i.e. (armoured cav, air assault, motorised infantry etc) mainly because of its all desert.

In related news the great thing is HYK troops woodland troops have 2nd Infantry all over them but I think some of their brigades are being Strykered up from memory I think one brigade is or has just finished touring Iraq while the rest are still in Korea. I think they are making a move away from the DMZ to just south of Sole.

Btw since i'm d/ling the North Korean Army Pack do you guys know where I can get south Korean troops, actully it doesn't seem like such a bad idea to modify HYKs army pack into South Korean forces, if anyone is willing to help out just give me a yell. That's if they havn't been made yet.

2nd ID has one Stryker brigade, one light infantry brigade and one armored brigade. Currently one brigade is moving from Korea to the US within a year or so (the armored brigade), the Strykers of 3rd Brigade are at Fort Lewis and the 2nd Brigade is in Iraq, though I think they're coming home soon. When they get done, they're redeploying to Fort Carson instead of going back to Korea.

Cool! Antal is an awesome writer- one of my favorite books.

Okay, point made, but the fact remains that we need one! Maybe if we make enough noise, someone will do it! (Cause i cant) Squeaky wheel gets the grease?

Rezin made some South Korean units including a K1 tank:

North Korean units have been on my personal to-do list for quite a while including a North Korean island. Since the day I saw this wonderfull documentary on tv I have been thinking: Man a North Korean island with some troops would be perfect for OFP. But unfortunately I never got around making some. But when I have the time I will certainly make some North Korean soldiers with a T34, T55, Type 63 APC and something like a truck or jeep. Maybe even a North Korean island but that, if you want to make a good one, would require a shitload of new objects confused_o.gif

Anyway North Korea is definately somehing I would like to see in OFP so if I don't get around doing some for OFP then I would most certainly make some units for Armed Assault smile_o.gif

Need a hand. What i was thinking was using asking and using RHS infantry in particular the Artillary Soldier in the motorised infnatry pack for the basic soldier and asking CSLA if we can use the respective vehicles. Then all we need to do is retexture them.
