Steel_WOF 0 Posted August 10, 2005 I have done searching, but some questions remain in my newb mind. Can someone confirm my understanding of the below combat modes? never fire=blue=just don't ever fire hold fire=green=return fire only if fired upon hold fire, engage at will=white=return fire only if fired upon - but what the heck does the engage at will part do? open fire=yellow=see an enemy, shoot at them but stay where you are? open fire, enage at will=red=see an enemy, shoot at them, and go attack them Second question if anyone knows: How or does the ECP Dynamic AI override the above settings? Thx for any info!
crashdome 3 Posted August 10, 2005 Engage at will allows the AI to break formation and run after units. I suggest avoiding that as the AI has been known to run directly towards large groups completely irregardless of their lack of skill and force capability ... Sui 0 Posted August 10, 2005 If you really want to see the OFP AI in action in regards to engage at will, try putting together a quick mission with a group vs. a group and make yourself the last soldier (ie. not in command). Try the scenario twice on the different combat settings and listen to the different radio calls. You'll notice engage at will means the squad won't keep formation, and individual will run off by themselves. Yellow will tend to keep guys in formation (until the commander tells to them to engage something). This is also the case with green. As for ECP, as far as I know (feel free to correct me, those more knowledgeable in all things ECP ) ECP has groups share information on the enemy, and the AI will be much more perceptive. Apart from that, I don't think there's any special differences??...
Steel_WOF 0 Posted August 10, 2005 thx guys...doing lots of reading and experimenting (this does NOT help with my production schedule! and replies like yours are helping me sort through this stuff.
DrBobcat 0 Posted August 11, 2005 Quote[/b] ]..... hold fire=green=return fire only if fired upon hold fire, engage at will=white=return fire only if fired upon - but what the heck does the engage at will part do? .... Hold fire means they don't fire at all but engage at will + hold fire means that they will only fire if fired upon. I just tried this out in game and seems to be the case. Also though I notice behaviour has an affect on them as well. In danger, they will back in hold-fire mode if the enemy is really close (close as in your grandma could pop em'. On the contrary, if they were in stealth and if you put them in hold + engage at will they will move into a better position to avoid fire, lower ability to be seen, and also get in a better firing position but never will actually fire until you give them the command to do so. Crazy how many combinations there are... Â BiS Caz
Steel_WOF 0 Posted August 11, 2005 agreed, but i sure wish there was a definition of behaviors for each combination instead of trial and error...
benreeper 0 Posted August 13, 2005 I've noticed no difference with the AI because their leader changes modes at will. --Ben
Sui 0 Posted August 14, 2005 agreed, but i sure wish there was a definition of behaviors for each combination instead of trial and error... Yeah, but where would the fun be in that? I find the best way to work out how the AI see things is play a lot of missions (or quickly made editor scenarios) as a plain grunt, and follow the AI squad leaders orders and observe their behaviour.
