Graphics settings

Recommended Posts

OK so I've got a new computer and just recently got a new video card and I haven't played OFP for over a year so Ireinstall it. Well I'm thinking OFP is a 4 year old game so I'll max out the settings my new machine should cope easily right? Well wrong, dispite being 4 years old OFP still takes some juice to max it out. I'm currently trying to find the best setting for my rig and I need some help. I have a P4 300ghz, 1.5gb RAM, 256mb NV6800GT and I want to run the game at a 1240 x 1024 resolution. Where I'm having the trouble it seems is with the view distance and if I switch on object shadows if I try to max out the view distance settings in the in game options my machine praticaly grinds to a stand still. Can anyone offer me some acceptable settings for my hardware?

I am not best to answer and hopefully someone has better details of settings.

I have a similiar system

PIV 3 gig,1 gig ram,6800 Geforce

I set games for speed rather than looks, from what I gather it sounds like you may have your terrain detail set to "high" quality and I don't know of a system that will handle that.

I use "normal" and even "low" quality.Setting it to "low" quality I believe I can then max out my view distance from what i remember.

I currently run "normal" quality and like 2000 viewdistance

I can run my OFP on 1600x1200 8AF and 8AA and i get like 54-47 FPS on Nogova with Medium terrain settings and 1000viewdistance(I prefer this so i can play missions without getting lag) But if i max out view distance to 5000 and lower terrain detail to low, and i look down from mountains in Nogova i get like 25-16 FPS(this looks playable to me, played OFP for 3 years with this FPS banghead.gif) but in mission i think it can get lower. On 2000viewdistance with medium terrain detail i get 35-30 FPS, its playable but sometimes it laggs when you turn around.

Also play with Autodropdown in OFP configuration utility. Set it like to 4. Also Dont make OFP to use all of your RAM. If it does, some people notice slowdowns in game. When you have 1 gig try to set Total memory to 912. Also this Geometry Performance if you max it out to the right you gain performance in OFP. dont know if its true but when i did it my OFP runs smooth  wow_o.gif I think its hard for somebody to give settings that will work for you, because people with similar hardware not always have same performance wink_o.gif Also i have Frame Rate setting in OFP maxed out and detail settings maxed out. None of the shadows are turned off. Also i run DXDLL but without reflections. Because with new drivers it lags.. 5 FPS even on lowest possible settings.
