bl00k 0 Posted July 21, 2005 I am curious if anything is being done with the in-game voip. I haven't seen anything about it so I assume it will remain as it is. I hope this is true. I thought it was great the way you could talk to squad/vehical/global/side/spatial. Totally cool. I wish that they would improve it to work a little bit better though. My friends and I seemed to have trouble with it at times. Also, the spatial voice was too quiet, needs to be a little louder imo.

Guest Ti0n3r Posted July 21, 2005 I guees it will stay the same. I also guees this topic will be locked. Anyways, this is what you Imo should use to communicate in Ofp; Teamspeak 2 Win32 Client (RC2) Teamspeak 2 Win32 Server (RC2)

bl00k 0 Posted July 21, 2005 I use TS now for WoW and other games, but I really like the way OFP had the different channels, and especially the spatial. At least I liked the idea of spatial, but it just didn't seem to work well. I'd like to give it another shot though. For people that don't know what spatial is: OFP had different voice channels built in. Global let you talk to EVERYONE on the server. Side let you talk to everyone on your team. Vehicle let you communicate with everyone in the same vehicle as you. Spatial was when you had to be within a close proximity to the person talking. Just like someone standing by you and talking not using the radio. Like I said, very cool stuff.
Gavsta 0 Posted July 21, 2005 Yea them ways of communication were cool but i wonder if ArmA will maybe include the actual voice of players who have Microphones...bit like xbox live dus with halo 2, tht wud be sweet. But if they do they shud keep the channel options EG if u use side channel to speak to people on your side, they are the only ones who will be able to hear you so enemies dnt! wot u guys rekn? Perfect imo. Built in VoIP would pwn to the max. Would be better for system performance and would just feel a lot cleaner imo.. not to mention would save us money because we wouldn't have to worry about the seperate cost of a TS server.... @ bis... Balschoiw 0 Posted July 21, 2005 Quote[/b] ] because we wouldn't have to worry about the seperate cost of a TS server.... There would be none. As VON would use a comparable bandwidth as TS server traffic. The program is free. In fact VON in OFP sent more data than TS with it´s adjustable quality settings. VON in OFP1 lagged 56k´s a lot while TS didn´t. That´s why most of the squads switched to external programs like TS.
.kju 3244 Posted July 22, 2005 well i like this BIS made system a lot as it allows you to manage situations more dynamicly in terms of communictaion, though two basic principles must apply: ~ good quality, yet few traffic ~ low cpu usage to the server (as its an addition to the regular stuff the server has to do, whereas you can setup a TS server on a different machine too)

I don't think you ever played the original OFP. It already has VOIP built into the game. That is what this whole thread is about. Yes, "tht wud be sweet" indeed, because it already is. Killbert 0 Posted July 23, 2005 I like the BF2 voice communication and squad system. The system should be build in the game, not any external program. In BF2 you can only speak (with mic) to your own squad.
