Anyone on here do any re-enactments for periods in history such as civil war, napoleonic war, 30 years war etc?

Whats it like if you do it that is? And what job do you do etc?

I do Civil War with the English Civil War Society.

I'm what they call a Matross. Basically, a farm worker whose been drafted in to the army. I fight for King Charles.

I'm on the Artillery which can range from small canons to massive canons.

Only been doing it for 3 months but i love it. The people are great to work with, you learn alot from them, and it's like a big family.

Our next event is in West Acre-Norfolk on July 29th-August 1st

KM War & Peace show

Great show, loads of tanks and armor from WW2 to modern day.

They have mainly 2nd world war enactment groups, the best one to look out for is the Second battle group German battle group

I am thinking of either joining The Sealed Knot (English Civil War re-enactment), as a Royalist. Or joining the 44th or 95th Regiment of Foot which are part of the Napoleonic Association.

I did some WW2 Reenactments with a British para group here in my home town.(It was american reenacting group) Then I did alittle Civil War reenacting.

I dont think they are reenacting but are having deadly disagreement.

Oh no no no, don't go for the sealed knot, unless you want broken bones, go for the English Civil War Society.

I'm in the King's Army under Sir William Pennymen's Regiment of Foote.

The SK is big, but it's not that good on safety issues. They do a top job, but i prefer ECWS.

Wherebouts are you? 'cos i might be able to get you some more info, if you want.

You guys should really try WW1 or WW2 reenacting its 10 times as better as this kind of reenacting. I personaly own my own Sten Mk. V and Einfeild No. 4 Rifle.

Didn't know it was that bad for safety. I thought in our current society, health & safety would be paramount.

I am in the Nottingham Area. I am dead for transport, there's about 10 people in the SK who live 1 or 2 miles away who can give lifts.

Hmm, when I eventually move to America (God knows when) I'll join a Confederate re-enaction society (I have a huge list of every Civil War re-enaction society in the U.S. somewhere, which I'll post when I find it), and I'll join a British World War 2 re-enaction society.

SFWanabe, screw the Sten, chap and cheerful tho it may be. Find a Lanchester, lovely copy of a German SMG . Then you can put a 17" Enfield bayonet on-looks very impressive, though of limited use on the battlefield (designed to be used in case of "Repel Boarders!" on RN warships).

English Civil War? Whatever floats your boat I suppose-must be a tad more expensive than the other periods. I'll have to have a look-see .

I don't realy have loads of money, so what is a usually cheap period to re-enact in?

Hopefully, the fake gun bill doesn't pass, because if it does then it will wreck loads of people's hobbies.

Hopefully, the fake gun bill doesn't pass, because if it does then it will wreck loads of people's hobbies.

Civil war is quite cheap. Membership for 1 costs about Å20 for 1 year.

Kit can be loaned to you.

Hose (long socks) is bout Å7.

Shirt, bout Å20.

Boots, now a decent pair Å125, or a Å15 pair of desert boots, painted/made up properly.

Really all you need is yourself, and money for booze.

Yer, I would love to do any of them, but finance and travel are the big problems for me.

I know around 10 SK (Civil War) members live near me. Awaiting feedback from one regiment from the Napoleonic Association.

Not sure about WW2, as you have to pay for loan of weapons (from Å20) and pay for rounds (from Å25 for 100, i think).

Well, most of the members are good at offerring lifts. The person who got me into it, has a lift off our regimental secretary. And i was in the car too.

I'm in Bristol, and had to travel up to Staveley (derbyshire). Some people are from scotland, yorkshire, norfolk (lotta norfolk people in our battalia) liverpool, you name it, we've prob'bly got someone from there.

Actually yes. We did a skirmish that involed alot of close-combat.

There's alot of that sort of thing in what we do, too.

The pikemen go into what we call the "push". Basically, it's a standing rugby scrum with long poles and no ball. It looks extremely dangerous but in actual fact everyone is making sure they don't injure the opposition.

Yer, i've seen pictures of that before, look well good. That's why if I join the ECWS or SK, I would be a pikeman.

Oh right, cool. I am currently looknig into it. But i'm checking out the Napoleonic groups out first.

Or arms of some sort.
