Supah 0 Posted June 23, 2005 More recently I've had the privilage to watch Typhoons flying to/from Warton from my office - they're an amazing machine to see in the air. I just wish they'd land one at the local airport so that I can get a closer look.. chances Rock? Yeah thought so Well if you live near either RAF Waddington or RAF Coningsby you should get a nice view in the next 6 months. 17 OEU and No 29 OCU are operating out of both these bases on integration training. (Coningsby being the home base) Failing that find a good airshow and you should be in for a treat. If you want some nice detail images and accurate info try the Eurofighter site: Eurofighter Media Library When is it supposed to start equipping operational units? Looking forward to see some german Eurofighters over here during trainings. Leeuwarden sees a LOT of large NATO trainings. Is fun

Leeuwarden sees a LOT of large NATO trainings. Is fun Well it 29 OCU is forming very soon after which there should be 1 operational "frontline" squadron later this year...with another one going live when the aircraft are ready. As far as i know its the same with the German and Italians. Although i think the Spanish will be forming their first squadron early 2006 but i dont know for sure. DeLiltMon 0 Posted June 23, 2005 the lighting performace wise is upthere with modern fighters, and pilots loved the plane. Its weaknesses were range and payload, but its performace is still impressive almost 50years on. A lighting with modern engines and materials It could also catch U2 spyplanes If I remember rightly, the Lightning was designed with one specific task in mind, intercepting Soviet bombers over the North Sea, hence it being designed as little more than two huge engines with a seat on the top. Pathy 0 Posted June 23, 2005 Or maybe you did after all The article describes a mock dogfight and you claimed it maybe wasnt the wrong choice after all . Out turning a couple of F-15E's  is no big feat. Ok....now... Seems maybe its the right choice after all Quote[/b] ]The original poster claimed the Eurofighter was rather great because it out turned a couple of E type Eagles. Since when did "maybe its the right choice after all" = "OMG the eurofighter is the greatest aircraft known to man!"? Look, i dont really argue with anything else you´ve said, i´m not going to, debate the Typhoon all you like and i wont say anything, because simply, i dont know enough to. BUT. The moment you start placing words into my mouth merely to get some sort of debating edge over someone else is the moment i say, no, not going to happen. Please dont do it, i dont see it as proper forum conduct.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted June 23, 2005 I am somewhat fed up with the press putting down the Typhoon. Europe is always quick to protest when costly projects are being initiated. We condemn everything already in the starting phase. Now I hope that europe will learn the lesson from the new AirbusA380, the Typhoon, the NH-90, the Galileo satelites, the Tiger, the A-400M, the Taurus KEPD 350, the GTK, and many more. I hope that we are finally capable to look optimistic at new projects and approach them in a constructive manner. Unlike material bought from abroad they foster employment and investments flowing back into the european economy. I remember all the rant and rave in Germany when we developed the Transrapid speed train. It was realy a terrible athmosphere. Noone supported it, everyone used it to proof the waste of money of our government. Now the Transrapid seems to sell well. Even the UK is thinking to build one connecting the South with the North. I hope we see more european projects in the future. The Typhoon is an excellent plane. Full stop. And dont forget that the Typhoon that engaged the US fighters was just a training version!
