swatdog 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Hey all, I left the community for a while because I got fed up with how OFP performed on my system. A long story short, I bought a new system last Christmas and just a few days ago reinstalled OFP just to see how much better it'll run. Specifications: -Before- Intel Celeron 766MHz 256MB PC133 memory PNY Verto GeForce MX420 64MB PCI -After- AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (running at 2.43GHz) 1GB (512x2) PC3200 memory (running at 222MHz (DDR444)) GeForce 5700LE, until I fried it, now i'm back with the old MX420 until I can build my newer better system (3GHz Athlon here I come!!! :P) Windows XP Professional SP2 Anyway, heres my problem: OFPR seems to make my computer REALLY slow, especially at startup/shutdown. It even did this on my older system (even though it was a slow system to begin with). I've run spyware/virus detectors, registry cleaners, system cleaners (Ace Utilities), etc... (Just to clarify, I reformatted my HDD a few nights ago so I'm running a fresh clean system) and cleared out anything I had (I had no viruses or spyware nonetheless). I THINK the shutdown issue might have something to do with Windows clearing the page file before shutdown. I set my page file to the "System Managed" option, and it seems like it got better, but not as good as I want it to. I installed a program called Cacheman XP (I'm sure some of you've heard of it) and I've also ran tweaks from within there but had very little effects on the problem. I also changed OFPRs total memory values to 960MB as opposed to my entire RAM bank (1024MB) leaving 64MB for Windows before it has to call in the page file. Now start up I have no clue what's causing that. I've minimized the programs that start up with Windows, and that's about all I know how to do to make start up faster without requiring a special program. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks! Placebo 31 Posted April 28, 2005 I don't quite follow, are you saying after you installed Resistance your PC runs slower? Or in game it runs slow? Personally I manually set a swapfile of minimum 750mb and maximum 1.5gb, works well
swatdog 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Ooops, sorry. I mean my computer runs slow with Resistance installed. It makes it slow even if I run it or not. Seems like just having it installed makes my computer act up.
Placebo 31 Posted April 28, 2005 Hmm that sounds odd, can't say I remember anyone reporting such a problem, you're 100% certain it's Opf that started your computer slowing down? Have you tried uninstalling to see if your computer goes back to it's normal speed?

Have you tried uninstalling to see if your computer goes back to it's normal speed? Yeah I'm pretty sure. I havent tried uninstalling/reinstalling simply because I was without OFP for many months and I experienced the speed of my computer, and now that I have OFP installed, it is definetly slower. Also, real quick... I don't really feel like starting a new thread but I recently started getting CTDs VERY often. Infact, it only started happening today. I have been playing around with the new LSR Rangers/Deltas on the CAT_Afghanistan revisited island, it seems like when I place a unit on a certain point on the map I CTD. Very strange.... and annoying.
Placebo 31 Posted April 28, 2005 Sounds like there's some problems in your computer, have you updated all the drivers/bios? What motherboard does your new computer have? CTD threads are fairly common, try searching for previous ones which will have applicable suggestions
swatdog 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Yep. Updated everything except my video card drivers which are 44.03. These evidentally are the best for my card to run OFP happily. My motherboard is a Gigabyte "GA-K8NS Pro", updated to the latest BIOS version F9.
theavonlady 2 Posted April 28, 2005 Check your entire hard drive for errors.
swatdog 0 Posted April 28, 2005 You mean run disk check or scan disk? I do before I defrag everytime, comes up with nothing.
BraTTy 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Did you say "Yes" to install Gamespy?
theavonlady 2 Posted April 28, 2005 He already said that his AV and spyware detections came up empty.
BraTTy 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Right ..he said Quote[/b] ](I had no viruses or spyware nonetheless) I find that hard to believe. What spyware scanner are you using? I often run adaware and spybot and they claim my pc is clean. When it is not.Try www.pandasoftware.com and use the free activescan edit: updating drivers also means your chipset drivers. Usually you install the Operating System,Chipset drivers then on to video drivers. Your MB (is nice BTW) has Nforce chipset and your chipset drivers are here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.

I've also used Spybot, Adaware, etc... I guess I should try updating my chipset drivers... I installed the ones from the CD that I got with my mobo, so I will try and update them. Thanks for the suggestion.
