kegetys 2 Posted April 23, 2005 A cheap, simple and effective cooling replacement for pretty much any normal video card is just to remove the stock fan entirely (not the heatsink), then pick a 8x8cm fan and attach it to one of those metal things that cover the pci etc. slots from a atx case and bend it straight. Like this ;) Run the fan at 5v or 7v and its silent and much more effective than those small fans that the cards usually have. It takes a few PCI slots though, but doesn't cost anything if you happen to have an old PSU laying around from where you can take the fan for it. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
bn880 5 Posted April 23, 2005 Yes, that works well too... good idea, it all depends on how much "modification" someone wants to do, but the intake/exhaust concept of a proper case already works very well if you have the fans running. BraTTy 0 Posted April 23, 2005 I bought a xFx 6800 and it had the cheapest fan/heatsink I have ever seen.I shaved 10 degrees off its temps by removing and installing even a regular cpu fan/heatsink. They make a quality fan/heatsink that replaces stock and also covers the ram chips.I may purchase it sometime. I also am running a softmod on the 6800 unlocking the 16 pipelines on that card. Also, parts of my world will disappear randomly.I have checked the GPU temp and it says its ok. And so i don't hijack this topic, i have made another because my problem is different. Kept me fixed for a while, included a tube of superglue that did not want to give the glue from the front tip but bursted open after some sqeezing at the opposite side and glued my hands to something like this, . No help in sight so I went for the hardcore method with my radius of mobility limited to a little circle. I found this extremely usefull and "filed" my hands of the component i wanted to glue and the "Schraubstock". After that I filed my fingers apart and was so impressed of the filing power that I filed both hands to get rid of glue remains. Superglue does always do something funny to me, but never glues the parts I want to glue... The guy was on the right trip, but I guess he should have used a metal saw to curb the coins once they were glued together. And I´m not that sure if the heat is transported the way he intends. Balschoiw 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Just a little closing statement. I have received the Cooler and the Ram coolers today. After installing them I tested some programs in question that tended to cause crashes before. Now everything runs great. No artefacts, no crashes. I will try to tweak the card a bit more tomorrow.
