schaef2k 0 Posted January 14, 2002 I,ve been trying to make a t2 fire on a few houses. the best i can do is place a small object near the house and use the dofire command to make the tank fire on the object. it's very unreliable, the tank doesn't see the object all the time if it's too small. i've tried using game logic instead of an objest but the tank only looks around for a second and then move to the next waypoint. is there a way to do this by hiding an object or something? help please!!!
whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 14, 2002 Have you tried to force your tank to know about the hidden object artificially with the command "reveal". Perhaps it could make the tank fire at the hidden object. Whis'
schaef2k 0 Posted January 14, 2002 i tried useing "knowsabout" but that didn't work. Someone else also suggested "reveal". i'll try that when i get home. also, how do you place a hidden object?
Damage Inc 0 Posted January 14, 2002 You could use an invisible helipad and have the tank shoot at it.
schaef2k 0 Posted January 14, 2002 have you tested that damage? will the tank shoot at the invisible helo pad?? if so that would work perfect. i'll have to test when i get home.
whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 14, 2002 Yep, I always add Invis helo pads, to fix some position, random snipe positions, etc... The problem is that, when a player shoots w/ LAW, tank, anything w/ a big blast at the helipad, he scores a kill against civilian unit - Invis helipad. Strange in the debriefing Whis'
Chris Death 0 Posted January 14, 2002 The hit against civilian units would also come up, when shooting at the houses. So i think it doesn't matter, if you're killing a civilian heli-pad too. The score will never be registered anywhere, and if you're designing your maps to take no care about the score, while taking care of completing the objectives, it wouldn't matter. Sorry if this is a bit complicated to read, but i'm still from Austria, and surely not the best in english.
schaef2k 0 Posted January 14, 2002 i don't mind the score against the civilian since it's AI anyway. however if it shoots 2 or 3 heli pads does the rest of the unit consider him "renagade" for killing civilians and start shooting at him. if that's not the case this would work. whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 14, 2002 Never seen anyone considered renegade for shooting at helipads. It could be, though, as my helipads are mainly used to update positions, more than to destroy them Whis'
schaef2k 0 Posted January 14, 2002 i'm just saying that becouse if you shoot 2 or 3 civilians your squad will start shooting at you. maybe there is a distinction between civilian people and object (i hope!!!)
schaef2k 0 Posted January 15, 2002 just thought i'd update you guys. last night i was working on this for about 3 or 4 hours and i found a few things pretty interesting. 1) i'm convinced that unless a tank can see it, it won't shoot it. People have mentioned helipads, I couldn't get that to go. the only thing i havn't tried is a hidden object (or person) because i can't figure out how to make things hidden. 2) tanks can see very small objects at about 200-300 meters out. i was using the object "wristwatch", you can't see it unless your standing right on top of it. 3) to get the tank to target more 2 objects i had to use multiple waypoints each targeting 1 or 2 objects with 20 second delays in between. it looks cool actually (in my mission) because the tank rolls up, starts to target, shoots and slowly rolls about 10 m forward to the next waypoint and repeats. 4) set the tanks skill to max. helps with acuracy and consistancy. in addition i found some object that are assigned to a side (east, west) like fences rocks..... anyway i found "concrete block - WEST". an east tank actually treats it as an enemy armored unit. no waypoint no trigger no nothing, just put one out there and that tank will go nuts. those t72's sure do hate cement blocks!!! an they blend in real nice into houses!!! that's it for now, got the mission working buy targeting wristwatches. i'm got to switch to the blocks and see if it plays better. whisperFFW06 0 Posted January 16, 2002 So reveal didn't work for unseen targets? hmmm, that's pretty bad Thanks for the reports. Whis'
schaef2k 0 Posted January 16, 2002 no reveal didn't do anything. i have it working pretty well by placing wristwatches and targeting them. it's almost imposible to spot the wristwatch yourself but the tank finds them most of the time. it's not 100% perfect the tank misses sometimes (that's ok, nobody's perfect) out fo three watches it will hit all three about 75% of the time. the skill of the tank helps allot also. but for what i want to do, this works fairly well.
