Pappy Boyington 0 Posted March 7, 2005 ok so.. my freind who i hadnt talked to in a lil over a year.. comes back gets his new rig and ofp set up.. ready to play alrighty then. i host a dedicated server on my laptop using a router and viola... he cant see it, dispite my game and ofpwatch can (keep in mind its only networked to the intrnet.. not to each other so its not a LAN) i host a listening server on my desktop, BAM he cant see that. ok to hell with this.. he hosts the game... and guess what? NOW I CANT SEE IT someone explain to me why this happens? we had this problem twice before and we have no clue how we fixed it. perhaps someone here can shine some light on why OFP chooses to be antisocial with other computers id like to think that our bad luck combined could not be this bad PS: i have hosted, and joined on both listening and dedicated servers within the past month and they worked fine)
Placebo 29 Posted March 7, 2005 Firewalls? Routers? Required ports opened?
Pappy Boyington 0 Posted March 7, 2005 all my firewalls configred accordingly to allow OFP to allow "clients" to join.. my router.. i temprorarly turned the firewall off it, and that still didnt change anything but i know the problem isnt on my end cuz like i said even ofp watch can see my stuff. and his firewall was off, or so he said. i dont know if he uses a router, something i forgot to ask, and im gonna assume that like me, he too can see other servers in the public list, course then again i forgot to ask that too. well ill ask these questions next time he is on. but like i said we had this problem once before, and without changing a damn thing.. just weeks of trying and trying and trying it finnaly worked. so im guessing that like the XML logo randomly chooses when it wants to show up... that OFP servers are doing the same thing. thought a problem the two might be related
