Another blow against Mircosoft

Recommended Posts

I can agree that maybe 40Gb is a bit over the edge.

On the contrary, it's way too small. Since you're already carrying a bloody hard drive, why not make it a proper sized one - say 200-300 GB.

How the heck could they put a 200-300 Gb HD in a small iPod??

It's designed to fit your pocket, I have had a 40 Gb HD on my computer and that HD is pretty big.

It's really incredible that they actually can make a 40-60 Gb HD on such a small device, don't you think?

I mean if we were in the 90's now it wouldn't even been possible to make these kinds of HD's.

Actually, I could just run over to the nearest computer store and get a 2.5" 100GB hard disk for less than 100 euros atm. wink_o.gif

Exactly.. The iPod is basicly just a 2.5" HD with a mp3 player built around it.

And quite an overpriced one at that might I add. crazy_o.gif

Mildly silly idea might be to implement a separate mobile device (smartphone) with regular flash memory and a separate small hard drive with bluetooth and have a relatively non-bulky communication device/pda/mobile hard disk together.. hmm.. rock.gif

I still use a sony cassette player with FM and AM tuner, and 3.5" floppy disks. Call me old fashion.

1.8" actually...

Good hd players (iRiver h-120/140 or the latest iPods) are smaller, lighter and more versatile than your average external harddisk. They are also more expensive, but then you don't need two devices, the external hd works on batteries if nescessary - and you can also listen to music.

Never has forking out $500+ (au) for any portable music and/or data device ever entered my mind.

My mobile phone picks up FM radio, stores MP3's; And for large data transfers, I've a 2.5", 4 gig, external USB hard drive, with the hard drive salvaged from a broken laptop from dads work, and the external case costing $10 from the market.

Doin' it on the cheap, baby! wink_o.gif

I can understand most criticism directed at the iPod but I still find myself owning one.In a strike of luck I found a desperate guy selling one with a 10 months warrenty left at a cheap price:190 euros. I found it was a bargain for a 3rd generation 20 GB iPod that still had a warrenty so bought it and loved it.

My music folder has 9 GB and it fits completly on my iPod along with other files.I had no problem with it,good battery life span, reliabiliy and I really can't criticize it's weight as I really can't feel it when I am out for a run,in the subway or in other places.

Other mass storage mp3 players might be better but I don't want to recommand you buying anything imported in Romania. The 20 GB iPod is 380 euros over here and most other products fall under the same over pricing criteria.

Well, imo this whole ipod thingy is one big hype. Anyway, that's my "ipod".

Ok, only 128MB storage space due to the expensive memory sticks (same as CF but twice the price).

Enough for daily bicycle training --during subway trips I read good old paper books (now reading: The Scorpion Jar).
