AOCbravo2004 0 Posted January 18, 2005 This is something I've been working on for a couple of weeks. Currently it is made up of several islands. There is the main island with the large city, a civilian airport, a military airfield, and a large military base. There are several other smaller islands connected by bridges. Then there is an island at the very south of the map that is just a military outpost to be used by an assault force. It has a large military airfield, lots of forests, outposts, an army barracks complex, two heliports, one for regular helos, and another one for Spec Ops helos which is surrounded by walls and has watch towers, this island base also has a firing range. Feedback would be really appreciated. Here are pics I have taken of the main islands city, currently the city has two Embassy Compounds, a hospital with a helipad, an upscale gated housing community, and a large cemetary. Here are some pics. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, so far this island uses RSKL's Hangers and NATO Has, Mapfact's addons (the newest versions), and all the updated AGS buildings, port construction kit and industrial pack, oh and the textures from Gaia Island. ag_smith 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Hmmm, have you ever seen dozens of indentical buildings lined up like on your map? I don't think so.

cobra@pulse 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Ahhhh, I see lag! :-) But the island does look cool, one thing though, make it more random, the first picture looks really standard and strange if you know what I mean, sorry, dont know how to explain it really.
AOCbravo2004 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Commublok Architects have run rampant in the United States, ever since the end of World War II, grr, someone help me out here. That one builder who started suburban America, now a days we have home owner associations (basically small communist states) where pretty much all the homes are identical and you can't make modifications to your home due to the rules, hell the book of rules and guidelines of living in these associations is larger then the bible itself . But yeah, I'll toss in more randomness. As far as lag, it's really not as bad anymore since the AGS buildings were updated.
stevevcb 3 Posted January 18, 2005 Burbclaves, anyone? When I read that book, I thought the idea of little miniature nations made up exclusively of suburbs was really dystopian and far-future... I guess some parts of the world aren't too far away from it
philcommando 0 Posted January 19, 2005 Great work there!!!..It takes lots of work and patience to line up the buildings...good job! I dont think there will be much lag if the author space out the building lots properly with plenty of green spaces in between - he can even fill the entire 512km map this way without any lag! More trees if space out and lump together will lend the map atmosphere of a living breathing city Keep it up! Edit:- According to United Nations, with the increased world population - stacking up and together will improve the economy of scale of a city, so dont be surprise if u travel to other parts of the world, u will see similar blocks after blocks of the same design - its real, espacially in 3rd world nations where dirty hovels are removed and inhabitants stacked up with low cost and neat little concrete boxes in the sky. Edge 2 Posted January 19, 2005 AOCbravo, I suggest you to add some "soul" to the urbanized areas and add some surrounding vegetation. Now it looks flat and boring, I cannot imagine myself enjoying play on such island. However, you made a nice basis for a decent urban map, so keep it up! I know that initial stages of island development may look extremely bad, but can turn into a really good pieces of terrain.

Oh man, I have yet to even begin the vegatation around the city and rest of the island. My whole thing is build the infrastructure first, then develop the terrain around it, rather then fit the infrastructure to the terrain.
AOCbravo2004 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Well I've been thinking and toying with some ideas, would people be interested in seeing a 3rd embassy compound on the island? What other features other then the stated randomness ( ) would people like to see? Like a large mountain, or just rolling hills. One of my intentions from the beginning with this island was to allow large tank engagements, but I would allow maybe some big hills or a mountain. thoughts? Post any suggestions on here, I will try to start work back up this weekend, have some things I need to know these next 2-3 days since I've found out I'm going to be a father. ag_smith 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Rolling hills. No huge Mount Everest type mountains raising out of plains, please. Trees, bushes, sidewalks, phone booths, benches, fences & walls, that kind of stuff. You need to rearrange buildings layout, so that 2 buildings of the same type are not next to each other (esp. those office buildings).

And Belgian chocolate ice cream. Trust me. Edit: I forgot the pickles and anchovies.

AOCbravo2004 0 Posted February 4, 2005 Well I have been working on this island more, and well the main city is almost complete, added a hospital with a landing pad, I've relocated the cemetary, have added a couple of movie theaters, a large university w/admin buildings, large and medium sized dorms, and classrooms, I've also added a "presidential" compound w/heli pad, and some police stations. The work progresses. Oh, I've added a small industrial zone on the southwest corner of the city. I intend to add a power plant, an oil refinery, a civilian port, a naval base with sub pens using RKSL's temp hangers, a civilian airport, and some small villages are still left on this island. Oh, and adding lights. The two large military bases are complete.
sneakysix 0 Posted February 5, 2005 Looking very intersting,, I can alomst see the mission of rolling tanks into the captial.  Im thinking the same about above and wooried about the lag with so many objects. It could make Pilot missions suffer half frame rate but ground hopefully wont be to bad with good spec PC.  Are the roads matching, ive a pet hate for roads that overlap and look untidy like early Wake Island and Normandy islands did.  All good islands never the less.  The City is a bold project and Im pleased your tackling it, perhaps burning script options to add to some buildings be great for a city under siege,,  wait prob lag   thx
AOCbravo2004 0 Posted February 24, 2005 I've been trying to work aggresively with this island, I've really started to populate the main city with vegetation, parks, a lake, a university, and a presidential compound. I've also completed the civilian airport, and the two main military airports. I am finishing up the naval base and starting work on the civilian port. I have also begun implementing AEF Train, so far it goes thru part of the main city to the main islands military airport, plus to the civilian airport and soon to the port. Also, I am going to be asking the OFP community to name this island along with the city, and the military installations. I suck at the naming game so the island will NOT be known as Bravo Land but what you, the community decide. I will try and post updated pictures later tonight. sneakysix 0 Posted February 24, 2005 Cool.. OK then to be cheeky Id say,, all those people who coulld be bothered to post a comment ;) and one hopefully that was constructive gets their name immortalised on your island,, I'll claim SneakySix Public Park ;) Or Sneaky Pass hehehehe PS I Love AEF Train, your island is sound ing better by the day
AOCbravo2004 0 Posted February 24, 2005 As promised here are some pics, they are over 100kb so here are the links http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash35.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash36.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash37.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash38.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash39.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash40.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash41.jpg http://members.cox.net/bravo149/flash42.jpg The island is coming along, I hope to finish it during the spring break in about two weeks. The hills and mountain ranges have not been finished yet. Lots of trees and stuff to be added. one of the smaller islands is being turned into sort of a resort. OH yeah, pictures 37 and 38 show the "presidential compound" of governor's residence etc.
