tlx 0 Posted January 12, 2002 Had a crash to desktop today upon this library. It's part of the "Windows XP Application Compatibility" update. Anyone else experienced this by now and has a hint on this DirectX core file (5.1.2600.15 dated 12/6/2001)? ======================================================= Date: 01/12/02 Â Time: 21:06:15 ------------------------------------------------------- file: Â Â __CUR_MP world: Â Â eden campaign: battle: Â mission: Â Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION Fault address: Â 6DA23360 01:00037360 D:\WINDOWS\System32\d3d8.dll Version 1.40 Fault address: Â 6DA23360 01:00037360 D:\WINDOWS\System32\d3d8.dll Prev. code bytes: 00 00 53 8B 02 85 C0 74 3A 8B 48 24 85 C9 74 1E Fault code bytes: 8B 49 18 85 C9 74 2C 8B 40 14 8B 98 58 02 00 00 Registers: EAX:001E3DE0 EBX:00000000 ECX:20000000 EDX:00170C64 ESI:00170A00 EDI:00000000 CS:EIP:001B:6DA23360 SS:ESP:0023:0012FAC0 Â EBP:0012FB08 DS:0023 Â ES:0023 Â FS:003B Â GS:0000 Flags:00010206 ======================================================= Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Damage Inc 0 Posted January 12, 2002 Do you mean this is a repeating problem or that it has only happened once? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
tlx 0 Posted January 12, 2002 It happens sporadic. Had only main EXE errors from time to time before, but now it's this library. Can't clearly reproduce it to track it. The original DLL is still available in an uninstall folder but it looks like more DirectX libs have been replaced. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
tlx 0 Posted January 13, 2002 Uninstalled the "XP Compatibility Fix" and guess what - played over 3 hours on a dedicated server now with lotsa custom missions. No problems. Seems this fix breaks more than it actually fixes. Will watch stability over a period of time now, but I guess that fix is bad. Avon this might be one for your FAQ: Windows XP Application Compatibility Update Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Avon this might be one for your FAQ: Windows XP Application Compatibility Update <span id='postcolor'> As I have yet to savor Windows XP (thank the heavens!), could you please give me some details of exactly what the "XP Compatibility Fix" is. Is it Microsoft's? What is it supposed to do? Is there a URL with general info on this fix? Much appreciated. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
