Which AK is it?

Recommended Posts

I've got from a person that would like to remain anonymous a photo (which was to help me with a project) of some kind of AK. Does anyone know what type/version it is? ... and a price if it were real (the person would just like to know).

Dankie!

edit: image file size over 100kb.

Nearly impossible to say. Would need good quality pictures of the receiver and whatever markings there are on it.

My guess would be a Norinco Mak 90, if that is a standard stock. Worth maybe $300-$400 depending on the condition of the rifle.

edit: and that one is probably real.

Is the above picture airsoft, or do those rifles allways come in such a 'all-you-insurgent-will-ever-need'-package rock.gif

@EiZei

Better go to somalia instead of iraq. The ones in somalia are only dropped once, the ones in iraq were dropped twice wink_o.gif

Wouldn't be so sure. Those rifles pass from father to son. Might have been dropped quite a few times already.

It's real, and it's in fact the civilian version of the Chinese Type 56 (it's semi-auto only)

Still very strange to see it like this. It looks like a toy with all those other things in the package. Oh well; it's a nice looking rifle anyway. But the type 56 would not be my weapon of choise. because it's chinese. I just don't like the fact that it's a copy of the 'real' thing; the good ol' AK47/74

Actually....

Quote[/b] ]The Navy Seals and the Military Defense Council of Finland, both selected Norinco of China to supply Chinese type 56 AK-47 rifles, which are virtually identical (except for select-fire components) to the Norinco MAK-90, & without the MAK-90's thumbhole stock).

THAT SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING, as the GALIL AK's, F.E.G.'s from Hungary, Arsenal of Bulgaria, and Russian AK's were all tested against the Chinese Norinco, and the Norinco came out on top as the most rugged, and best value, despite the fact that it would have been easier for Finland and the Navy Seals to buy AK-47 variants from other Eastern European, or Russian sources.

Norinco of China, Zastava of Yugoslavia, and Valmet/Sako of Finland all use at least 1.5mm steel for their stamped receivers on their AK variants, thus eliminating the need for a anti-trip device that does not solve the problem of too thin of receiver, found in the trigger groups of thinner 1mm steel receivers of Warsaw-Pact AKM's. The thicker 1.5mm stamped receivers found in Norinco, Valmet/Sako, and Zastava/Serbian rifles are more durable.

The thicker 1.5mm receiver AK's are a lot less likely to experience malfunctions like the thinner 1mm receiver AK's do, when the thicker receiver Chinese, Yugoslavian, or Valmet's get hot under rapid fire, sustained-fire situations, because there's less "fatigue", thus "flex" & jams, in the thicker 1.5mm steel receivers, than in the thinner-walled receivers of the Warsaw-Pact AKM-type rifles.

Funny thing is, I've head much the same about Chinese made MiG-17's. i.e. - according to people that own them today, they are usually of better manufacture than East European made ones.

Just wanted to point out that the real "good old AK-47" is not the same as the AKM. It didn't yet have a stamped receiver and was about a kilo heavier.

oops, yes you're right Ares1978 (although I couldn't have told you how much heavier it is ).

Guess, I have to change my opinion in this chinese gun. Geuss they didn't do a bad job on that one.

Don't just yet. There is an enormous quality difference between the military Type 56 and the civilian models. The accuracy, reliability and durability varies a lot more among the civilian models.
