Having problems with connecting for Multiplayer.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I am currently running OFP 1.96.

I have recently got a new computer and have'nt tried Multiplayer on it yet, until now. But for some reason, everytime I click on the Directplay button in order to find some servers, the game lags really badly (unusual seeing as I am running 3.4GHZ Pentium and 1024MB DDR RAM) and then it returns to the desktop and the OFP icon on the bottom of the toolbar dissapears.

Does anyone know what causes this and what the solution is as it is starting to get very frustrating. I have tried tinkering with Virus Protecting Firewall but that does nothing (though I have'nt tried with Windows Firewall yet).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Bazzer.

P.S. My Internet connection is actually downstairs, but I am running it through a router on our downstairs PC and up to my Computer upstairs. Would this have something to do with it?

I would try entering different ports, but it doesn't give me a chance, within a few seconds of lag it clicks back onto the desktop and I have to restart Flashpoint.

One day, after BIS solved the DirectPlay hard disk formating problem in a patch, i changed the Socket setting in Multiplayer to DirectPlay to test how it could be in performance (i wanted to see if Socket was really superior to DirectPlay).

All i had was lots of crash in OFP , and an impossibility to change it back to DirectPlay (freezing and crashing to desktop).

So if you are in the same situation, change back to Socket by editing the UserInfo.cfg (it is a simple text file, so you can open it with any notepad/wordpad...) located in your

Quote[/b] ]...Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\Users\YourUserName

Find the line

useSockets=0;

and change it to

useSockets=1;

Personnally, i would never ever click again on Socket to change to Directplay.

And you don't have to click on Socket to change it to Directplay to refresh the server list.
