2 copies of different OFPs on one machine

Recommended Posts

Hi All, smile_o.gif

I have just bought a second copy of OFP:GOTY.

I want to put the second copy onto my second PC, however, I have already installed OFP on it (with my 1st CDKey) - to use it as a server.

What I want to know is how you change your CD-Key for OFP?

I have noticed that there is an entry in the registry, but it must be encrypted.

I dont fancy reinstalling it if there is an easy way to do it.

Thanks,

#C

I don't think it can be done, and if you do FADE will most likely activate. Methinks this should be in troobleshooting by the way. If I were you I'd just make sure I had all the addons and so on backed up then reinstall. It wont take too long.

As far as I am aware, you can only have one version of OFP installed on your machine.

Rather than messing with your registry, or trying to break the encryption (and thus committing a crime), you can just go the easy way and re-install GOTY xmas_o.gif

There would be only one copy installed on my PC.

I have no idea how you interpreted my post as meaning that I wanted to install 2 copies on the same PC.

In fact. The post is VERY misleading now.....

tut tut.

Nor did I say anything about trying to break encryption... In some other games, the CDKey can be changed directly in the registry. Never mind though! smile_o.gif

I basically wanted to change the CD key on my second PC as I now have 2 VALID CDKeys.

Never mind anyway, I have installed my new version over the top of the original installation. smile_o.gif

Seems to work fine!

A CD-key is specific to each copy of OFP rock.gif

If you install a new version on top of the older one, then only the new one is retained rock.gif

Now I don't understand what you tried to do crazy_o.gifcrazy_o.gif

Just rename your ofp folder and backup (export) your key from the registry, reinstall cwc (or goty) to the same folder as before (takes only a few minutes). Now delete the new folder and rename the old one back. Export the key from the registry. Now you can switch between your two keys by clicking on the registry file.

BTW: Ex-Ronin, why should decrypting the key in the registry be against any laws? Against what laws? In what countries?
