a helicopter mission (Russian-side) ...

story: "The Americans have come to civilize the Afghan people, but terror is reigning more than ever. The Russians can no longer tolerate the anarchy in Afghanistan and have decided to re-invade the country ..."

by the author of other SP missions: Sarajevo Sniper Town, Realistic Crime City (aka OFP-GTA), ...

Press comments:

"Do away with high-poly addons and enjoy OFP gameplay at its smoothest."

(The New Delhi PC Game Review)

"Refreshing."

Addons required: only 1 addon!!

Jelalhabat island: http://umf.free.fr/map2/Jelalhabat_isl.zip

(Discover one of the more beautiful landscapes in OFP!wink_o.gif

Features:

- viewdistance  selector

- difficulty selector (should allow for replayability)

Easy: recommended for weaker PCs (limited number of enemies)

Normal: higher skill levels of enemies

Medium: added some surprises

Hard: added some extra surprises (most CPU-intensive)

Advice

- if you don't like the intro, just skip it

- this mission is not very difficult, but it forces you to navigate  mountain areas successfully

- viewdistance: 3000 recommended; this setting was tested on Pentium 4 2  Ghz (1024 Mb Ram) --> you might want to put textures on "low" or "very low"  in order to profit from maximum fps (helicopter mission)

- during last objective, enemy is fleeing, so you have to chase them (don't  forget the boats ...).

Credits:

- User AA script modified by Blanco, original by Grendel (only used from medium level onwards)

- Generic Fire script by General Barron

- Crashdome for helping me out with the dialog

- Blanco for beta-testing  this mission.

To-do list:

- a to-do list.

Had a major problem playing this. Possibly caused by running under the EECP mod. I hope it's not because of Jellybelly Island! Will try again later without it.

Comments:

1. Add a briefingName statement to the mission.sqm file

2. Scud on closer LST in cutscene blew up on deck. Messy! Messy!

3. Spelling: in briefing objective 1: "remaining". In briefing objective 3: "base".

4. It should be clearly mentioned in the overview and the briefing that you play a Hind pilot. This is only alluded to when you click on notes.

5. As said, didn't have a chance to play because of problems but what's a pilot doing with an RPG?

6. Politics: Ah yes! Nothing like Russian peace process methods! ghostface.gif

1. thx for the hint! It has been a mystery to me so far how people titled their briefing

2. this hasn't been reported before by any of the beta-testers, will look into it & extend the safe margin

4. hmm, there's another chopper at your disposal, so I can't really do that

5. maybe I should stress this mission doesn't focus on ultra-realism but on fun gameplay and replayability. The RPG comes in handy when you get shot down over certain areas in Kabul.

6. I agree, but I would advise against stressing the political aspects. The story is just there to make the usage of standard BIS units in Kabul somewhat more plausible.

UnPBO and thee shall find!

Are you sure the other isn't locked? I thought it was. rock.gif

Anyway, so say something like "chopper pilot". You don't have to explicitly mention Hind. Just make the player more aware that this is a piloting mission and not an infantry mission.

EDIT: The briefing name can be set in the editor by click on the weather/date/time box in the upper right hand corner of the mission editor. When the following window displays, fill in the mission name in the top line. smile_o.gif

quite nice mission, the fact that the last 3 days ive also been making a mission on this island did help me a lot smile_o.gif

the mission worked fine, i think Avon scud bug is EECP related, i used FlashFX and all went fine.

Apart from that i didnt get objective complete at rearm at base (maybe because i didnt land?)

Also, when i won mission there was still a few live enemies around at port, but i was playing on easy mode tounge_o.gif

those scuds at port show up as green sad_o.gif but they are enemies right?? if in doubt...shoot them  biggrin_o.gif

Anyway, thanks for this early morning mission, now i can go to work with my homicidal instincts satisfied.

Does this mission require +1GHz computer or will it work on my 800MHz (512ram)? wink_o.gif

on -1 Ghz this mission should cause no problem if you put "terrain detail" in OFP's video settings on "very low". I could recommend this to most people, because in a chopper mission it is more important that your fps is as fluent as possible.

As far as viewdistance concerns, only viewdistance 900 is problematic because then you get vulcans shooting out of the fog ... I recommend 3000 because then you have a nice overview of the surroundings.
