Wobble 1 Posted January 11, 2002 I just cannot seem to control the OFP choppers... it seems the throttle is WWAAAYYY too sensitive and I end up bobbing up and down insted of being able to hold a relativley good alt.. the thing is that in the demo I could fly it REALLY good, and im really good at the EECH series too.. is there something fruity with the controls?? I tried recalibrating and that didntt help either.. Oh yea.. I HATE the throttle.. where you pull it BACK to go UP.. I know that maby be how a REAL chopper is but when every single other game uses a throttle FOREWARD for more thrust it makes is very very hard to adjust to it.. is there any way to reverse the throttle?? bluelaser 0 Posted January 11, 2002 I love the chopper controls. The only thing that I dislike is the fact that you have to dip so high to stop. Sort of makes landings difficult. Choppers provide some much needed death from above.
Guest Posted January 11, 2002 If your throttle is removable, you could turn it around...j/k
MDRZulu 0 Posted January 11, 2002 Yeah I dont like how sensitive the throttle is either. I dont have a problem with stopping actually if you dont want to go up that high when you stop and if you have rudder controls then just do a really hard turn. Unless your in the hind because it flys like shit and the chinook flys better.
Wobble 1 Posted January 11, 2002 OK I did a little test on my throttle.. moving the throttle about 1/4 the way did nothing... moving it 1/4 more made it rocket up into the air.. maving it back just a tad and it dropped out of the sky.. so it seems (in my case at least) that the game only recognises the very center of the throttle.. in oter words it hits full throttle in the game at about 3/4 throttle on the stick and hits 0 throttle at 1/4 of throttle on the stick.. so it IS too sensitive.. im gonna try and dig around for the joystick config file.. Guest Posted January 11, 2002 You did say you re-calibrated in the control panel, right? Sounds like it's not using the entire range. You may want to double check it by using the joystick control panel.
Wobble 1 Posted January 11, 2002 correct, the game is not using the entire range, I recalibrated too. I looked around and couldent find a joystick config file either
RedRogue 0 Posted January 11, 2002 or just use Q and Z
Diniter 0 Posted January 11, 2002 What upsets me is the fact that "turn left" + "turn right" don't work when you turn off mouse move. Technically I think it would be more correct if I said that the turns don't work when you turn on free-look. Why shouldn't these be available when joystick is on and you disable your mouse to steer? To me the throttle is too loose( too sensitive) and the turning is too slow. I don't think you have to be a pilot to realize the controls are ...weak. If anyone has a CH Pro Throttle, I'm looking for a better-than-good map for flight controls.
dayglow 2 Posted January 11, 2002 I've found the throttle way to sensitive as well. I just turn it off and use the keyboard for collective and the stick and twist for cyclic and yaw. Things are way more controllable now. I can't really fly NOE like I can in EECH, but then I don't expect it from this title. COLINMAN
Rogue2020 0 Posted January 11, 2002 hmmm...I thought you were going to say they were to easy to fly.....oh well......
jimz0rz 0 Posted January 11, 2002 I use a cheapy MS Sidewinder and I've turned the throttle off, it's a fucking nightmare to fly with. I use the stick in accordance with the Q and Z keys..much easier that way.
Rogue2020 0 Posted January 11, 2002 I have never really used my joystick.....it's really to much trouble....I have a small desk so there is no way to use it comfortably with the short cords.....cost 130 bucks to.....
christophercles 0 Posted January 11, 2002 When flying choppers in mp, i use my force feedback joystick, but if its just a quick mission i just use the mouse, which is suprisingly easy to use.
-TFF- NEO 0 Posted January 12, 2002 I remember when version 1.20 or 1.30 came out. They had removed Manual Fire from the menu, because otherwise you somehow could shoot double (one gunner and then the pilot on manual). That made that when you flied alone you couldn't fire at all. Luckly that was fixed in version 1.4. When you have a gunner in the chopper there are no manual fire option, but there is when you're alone. Neat.
john_mcclane 0 Posted January 12, 2002 I honestly think the best way to fly the choppers in the game is with the keyboard. I use the W-S-A-D keys to control the cyclic, Page Up & Page Down to control the collective, and Delete & End to use the rudder pedals (I don't use the numpad keys). I also hit the "*" key to turn off mouse steering to avoid any accidents and it's also nice to be able to look around the cockpit with the mouse. One of the best ways to land is to fly directly over your LZ at a fairly low altitude and then start a sharp bank while pulling back a bit on the cyclic and lowering the collective. If you do it correctly, you should find yourself heading directly for the LZ at about 20 - 30 knots and around 25 feet off the ground.
SimplyCosmic 0 Posted January 12, 2002 And this is why I love my Saitek X45 for controlling choppers. Didn't have to configure any of the buttons, as they seemed to be set just as I'd want them in game. Only problem now is the fact that I wish there were more chopper missions, simply because they're enjoyable with this HOTAS setup.
Diniter 0 Posted January 12, 2002 I was going to get on of those. Pretty neat looking. I got the CH instead because I thought they were to have the Win2000 software out sooner. Turns out I was correct. I got home and downloaded it. Both have a one year warranty. Hope your happy with it. It looks like it costs 2x what it really does. Assault (CAN) 1 Posted January 12, 2002 I used to have a joystick, a Logitech one, it was pretty decent. The problem I have with most joysticks in general is the fact that I don't find them as accurate (sensitive) as the mouse. As I recall, I was so frustrated by this, I broke the joystick right off the base. I still don't miss it. I used to use it for my Hind and Apache sims, which I still find very accurate (control wise) for thier age. The graphics are 1996 style. Any other decent chopper sims out there?
