-=RA=- DarkMan -Pvt- 0 Posted January 10, 2002 Hi everyone! I've got a real prob wth OpFlash 1.4 - I love the game to bits but just can't get it to start half the time... Nearly every time I try to start (particularly via GameSpy 1.08) the CD has problems spinning up and just freezes or I get persistent "Illegal Operation" warnings... I'm running Win98 , 256 Mb RAM, ATI Rage Pro 128, PIII 450 It's getting really frustrating as sometimes it works fine, but it seems to be a complete lottery as to when it decides to play OK... What should I do? Please help as I'm desperate to get fragging! DarkMan
theavonlady 2 Posted January 10, 2002 Let's start with something simple. Since you've only got 128MB of RAM, make sure that nothing else is running in Windows, except for Explorer, Systray and any memory manager, if you're using one. Let us know.
-=RA=- DarkMan -Pvt- 0 Posted January 10, 2002 Hi Avon. Thanks for the reply - I've got 256Mb RAM on board - surely that should help! Any ideas what to try next? Dark
theavonlady 2 Posted January 10, 2002 Have you gone through The FAQ's INSTALLATION and TROUBLESHOOTING sections? Checked out your motherboard, BIOS, DX and drivers install, ASPI level? Does file Flashpoint.rpt in your OFP directory have a report of these errors?
-=RA=- DarkMan -Pvt- 0 Posted January 10, 2002 Avon, Thaks very much for the reply again...I looked at your FAQs - but the link to the ASPI checker was broken. I also don't know how to run the .rpt file/app... OpFlash seems to work marginally better when I have DMA enabled on my CD drive! I'm running Red Hammer if that's any help... Cheers! theavonlady 2 Posted January 10, 2002 This ASPI link is on The FAQ's ASPI item and it's up: http://www.goldenhawk.com/ide.htm File Flashpoint.rpt is a text file.

Placebo 29 Posted January 10, 2002 Avon feel free to use this mirror for  ASPI check and the latest ASPI drivers, it also includes a fix for 2k/xp (although I never noticed there was a problem installing them myself). http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ps/Aspi/aspi.win_98.me.2k.xp.zip -=RA=- DarkMan [Pvt] I suggest you download either my file or one from Avon's FAQ and install ASPI again

Placebo 29 Posted January 13, 2002 The aspichk.exe and aspi32.exe are the exact same ones as used for win 98/me, the additional files are solely for win 2k/xp as those version can have problems installing, I reinstalled xp over the weekend and I got the same error that KekoJones reported, when I tried to install aspi it said "no adaptec hosts detected" (or something like that), so I had to install the aspi files manually
