Minus networkadress 0, broadcast 255 and the gateway IP at the last IP part. At the end there are 253 available adresses in a class c network... But before we don't find a end I'm actually working on a automation to ban faked IDs. Any player connecting with a faked ID will automatically set onto the ban.txt. Every time he change his ID it will be added. Further intentions are to setup the ban.txt before we know the ID so players with faked IDs could never connect. This will hopefully take out the intention blocking IP adress ranges in your firewalls... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Forcing players to authenticate, with a username & password (per server) as well as a legit player-id (per copy of the game) would cut down cheating alot (but do this at the 'connecting to server' level, not force everyone to use VPN, it was just a comparison & a temp fix thats all. In a 24bit network you have 256 possible ips, but two out of them are used as the whole network and as broadcast, so only 254 adresses are possible for clients. And one of those clients has to be the gateway. This is because routing depends on ANDing and ORing the destination ip with the netmask. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

RN Malboeuf 12 Posted July 11, 2004 you wont beat fake IDs, only the IDs past a certin range are detectable and even then suma wont release how the ID ranges work and since a server has to be restarted every time for a new ban (this is usually the case) you really wont get any imediate results, and most bans will be a 1 time ID so its pointless if you look back over the years in these forums you will see that i have allot of knowledge when it comes to IDs so when you get it ready let me know and i'll sign on with your ID and you can ban away Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Yes I will tell you when its ready. sorry about that you're right, some times its the removal of IDs that requires a server restart but when you ban me and i have your ID in use what will be acoplished? Norris 0 Posted July 17, 2004 I know it seems drastic to block an entire IP range, but I find most of the advanced cheaters I have problem combating are from Germany, if I have to ban every German IP address well thats an acceptable risk. Those are the words of a madman. How about it if you just unplug the server from the net and play with yourself? That way your server will be cheater free! Hooray! ... or will it? Or to have the ability to include masks using wildcards like "*" and "?", simillar to the way you can allow or deny (ip) acces on firewalls etc. To indicate that way to the server that 12-digit id is bad when lets say 10-digit is fine. I can only talk about the zeus servers but our regulars/admins have invested a lot of time/patience in creating a nice gaming environment where almost everybody knows eachother. We invite people to get on our ts server as soon as they logon. This enhances the teamwork and I think it helps in building a group feeling. If a cheater comes in we deal with it quickly and continue gaming.
