to play opf with addons

mods i assume this will be moved/locked since every thread has about a 50% chance of that happening in this forum but at least let me get this out...

i used to be a diehard player of opf since the beginning and even before the game came out...but now i find myself putting in the cd only to remove it later in disgust.

to start out with, for OPF multiplayer there are 2 kinds of games. one is the no-addons-needed simple one town CTF; now while this is an easy way to get some quick OPF gaming in im not exactly a fan of this style of play since there is soooo much more to opf than just one town ctf...if i wanted that i could just stick the HL cd in and play some counterstrike....heck i dont even need the CD to play CS! not that im exactly a CS fan, but point being that wasnt what i had in mind when i bought this game

then there is the other kind of multiplayer game, my kind, which makes use of alot of the other cool stuff OPF has which other games dont...vehicles, scripting, effects, etc. of course when i go to join all of them i fail to notice that they require about 10 different addons to play, not forgetting the fact that some of the addons required require addons of their own. (ok maybe 10 is an exageration, but the part of addons requiring their own addons isnt)

so anyhow by the time i get to the stage where ive looked at all the MP games im pretty much feeling like "screw it, ill just find a few cool looking addons or download a mission or something". so eventually i make it into the editor and load the spectacular desert island with a single simple mod i download and mess around with it...on a desert island...with a couple enemy units....needless to say it gets boring pretty fast with no objective or goal or anything.

so if i reach the point of being ambitious i go to download a whole ADDON PACK with a map that goes along and the whole works! WOW! BUT GUESS WHAT? SILLY WABIT, THAT ADDON PACK REQUIRES AN ADDON OF ITS OWN...and after spending a good half an hour trying to find THAT addon, and i find it, hey guess what? im starting to feel pretty good about myself, wow ive actually got something started here...i got a working addon pack! now time for the island to go along with it....oh but wait! what is this! a list of required addons to use the island....and not one but several! so this stooge goes to search for the first addon on the list, only to find that it couldnt be found on ofpec and would take too long to look through all the pages of addons on ofpgamezone (since there is no search-thingy). so i go to use my last resort, godly google, keeper of the web, and do i find it! BY GOLLY YES! I FOUND ADDON NUMBER ONE! I AM THE KING OF THE WORLD...I AM THE GOD OF ALL THINGS MIGHTY...oh but wait! whats this? could not find file blah.rar....WHAT? AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHRGGGGGGGG!!!! ::mighty king-kong chest pound::

and by that time mr. looney toon has gone onto the flashpoint forums to rant about his troubles after several hours of totally unproductive unfulfilling uninteresting and unhumane work to be able to be able to play such a wonderful game...well at least my opfr jewel case will enhance the beauty of my cd collection...the guy on the cover looks POed....i wonder whats that stuff smeared over his face....is he single? time to take my medication, will continue rant later (if not locked)

edit: bottom line is, too many different addons are needed to play MP or use OTHER addons, and trying to find a particular addon is ridiculously hard, plus the setup of many websites with finding addons isnt very helpful. try to successfully install several addons or be subjected to gang rape by a bunch of aids infested african monkeys? backside, please!

My! How frustrating!

Maybe you want to be more specific? The only such complex addons I can think about, for the most part, are the recent total conversion mods. By defintion, these will require you to download a warehouse full of addons.

wow response already. anyhow im cooling down...slowly but surely...i think i need a drink...all this intense searching has taken alot out of me ! :-D

as for which mod, the first mod i talked about was the p38 lightning (its great, my favorite ww2 plane, looks beautiful and flies like it too but to really play using it i think id need alot of other ww2 stuff to make it more fun...which needless to say im not about to go attempt to download)

as for the second mod, its the lost brothers addon pack with sinai penninsula, i was waiting for a mod like this for a long time, from the screens it looks great but i guess ill never know lol...enough drama for the evening. OH CRAP ITS MORNING NOW (seriously...when i started this it was like early-early morning like 1-2AM, now its 5AM!) (oh an also, i still consider 1AM evening, cuz really its too early to be considered early, so all it can be considered is late. enough with my screwed up logic already!)

oh and one last thing

this has happened to me before....several months ago, when i had tried playing opf again. i cant remember which addons i tried using, but i remember the same thing happened, and i pretty much said screw it and havent tried opf again till now...

Ofp.info has most addons/mods out there, the rest can be found with a fairly simple search, either google or these forums. Yes it takes a little time but that's life, we must choose between playing Opf out of the box and not spending time doing anything else or we must spend a little time doing leg work. Everyone has to do the same thing.

With regard to your complaint about addons & multiplayer have you not checked out "ofpwatch"?
