OFP and two monitors?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I knew, this has been in the discussion some time ago, but I want to bring that thing up again.

Is there a way to use multiple monitors with OFP?

PRO: There was a screenshot on the net, that showed a three-monitor construction with OFP in some kind of a "widescreen-mode".

There used to be a "-twomon" command for the flashpoint.exe (just like -mod=XXX). But it seems to be useless nowadays.

CONTRA: Seems like nobody got OFP working with two or more screens.

I think it would be very usefull and a great addition for gameplay. So, are there any chances?

Jens

Search all the thread titles (not posts) for "monito*" from the beginning of the forum. You should find about a dozen matching threads that already discuss this.

Well, I did this before (one of the threads was even started by me.), but there was no real "solution" or something for that problem.

Afaik you have good chances two monitors will work with nvidia and three with matrox, but not with ati cards.

Yes, the screenshot I mentioned before, was on a commercial page from Matrox.

P.S. And of course I do have an ATI Card crazy_o.gif

Not that I could get two monitors + OFP working with a single NVIDIA ti4200 either.. rock.gif

Maybe with some kind of extra tool (to be written of course)? I remember something like that for the MS-Flightsimulator 2002 some time ago.

There was a program for FS that allowed you to have 3 monitors set up like a cockpit so that you looked at the monitor to your left instead of looking with the buttons. I'm not sure if this could be done but someone could try... It would be nice with those 3D glasses!

Has anyone got those 3D glasses?

I do, but i only have one monitor and even if you gave me two more i wouldn't have the space on my desk to put them beside the one i already have tounge_o.gif

Ah, that's the problem. My ATI card does not support monitor spaning. Well, that's sad. Should I go out and buy a Nvidia card now?

Are there any experiences with OFP spaned on two monitors?

Would be nice to hear some words from people, who got it going on 2 mons.

If you want to make huge screenshots, it is the only way to go.

The biggest annoyance of course is having the crosshairs right down the middle, first-person view sucks because of it. If you are driving a vehicle in 2nd person, or command view though, it can be like having your own UAV assigned to your tank.

FPS obviously is reduced significantly.

Other quirk is that it can be a real pain to get the color sync'd exactly between the monitors, especially with vga/dvi cards. Ideally, you'd want a dvi/dvi card running 2 projectors for no gap, but that don't work for my budjet yet. I have see some 2x LCD monitors for sale, basiclly the manufacturer took two ~15" or ~17" LCD modules and put them side by side in one case. That would be one possible option.

Mainly though, two monitors is a huge help when designing wrp's and mission scripting. That way OFP can be running in a window on one monitor, while your clutter of notes and scripts and editors are spread out across the screen.

Regarding the problem with taking large/panoramic screen shots, I haven't tried this yet, but it should be possible to use the following OFP commandline parameters and then capture the active window: -window -x=2048 -y=1200.

Interesting, will have to try it out. But, it looks like AA/AS gets killed in -window.

Grr, saw your screenshots in the combat-pictures thread. mad_o.gif

Well, I'll stick to playing with one Monitor and use the other for my Visitor/Buldozer combo.

Did you see my posts, or did you clicky the links?

Okay, more updates. With my currently-installed detonators (53.03), I am still limited to 3200x1200 on span-mode. Modes.txt says that it can go higher, but then again it also lists rediculous numbers for TNT's as well. I'm guessing that it may be a 5600 limitation.

I can crank up dualview resolutions to 1920x1440@60hz x2. The other issue that shows up is that OFP won't let you set a window size larger than the desktop size. So if I get a virtual desktop app... I wonder if I can nuke it bigger. The catch is to keep it above ~4fps so that mouse clicks still register.
