GT-T 0 Posted June 2, 2004 Since getting a new graphics card (G-Force FX5200) Malden has been totally barren. Everything except the runway and ground cover has gone. Any help will be greatly appreciated. regards GT-T
theavonlady 2 Posted June 2, 2004 Are you running OFP with any unofficial addons? Does the problem occur when you also run OFP without any of them whatsoever? edit: anyone here been dropping agent orange on Malden (again)? edit: what nvidia driver version do you have installed? Also, have you searched the forum for previous threads about Nvidia 5200 cards?
GT-T 0 Posted June 2, 2004 Tried it with and without unofficial addons and have the latest drivers installed. Also did a complete re-install and nothing has changed.
theavonlady 2 Posted June 2, 2004 Tried it with and without unofficial addons and have the latest drivers installed. Also did a complete re-install and nothing has changed. Go into the OFPR Preferences program, click on the ADVANCED button. What are your settings under all of the tabs there?

theavonlady 2 Posted June 2, 2004 They arePerformance Texture memory 256mb Texture heap 16mb File heap 16mb Geometry performance 2633 Effects All boxs checked Max lights 32 Textures Cockpits - maximize Objects  -maximize Landscape - maximize Special effects - maximize Details Object LOD - set all the way to the left Shadows LOD - set all the way to the left If that helps, then test if your OFP gameplay lags too much or not. If it doesn't help or if there's too much lag, post your detailed systems specs. Try the following changes: Performance: Texture heap - set all the way to the left File heap - set all the way to the left Geometry - set all the way to the right
GT-T 0 Posted June 2, 2004 Thankyou for your response Avon, I have tried the different settings you gave me but the problem persists. My system specs are Pentium 4 1.7GHz 384MB RAM Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128MB Windows XP Home I hope that's enough info
theavonlady 2 Posted June 2, 2004 384MB RAM But your preferences say: Total memory 256mb? It should be Total memory 384mb If that doesn't help, try the following: Make backup copies and then delete the following 2 files: \OFP\Flashpoint.cfg \OFP\Users\yourPlayerName\Userinfo.cfg Then run the Preferences program, click on AUTODETECT, the click on START. If that doesn't help, then it's surely a hardware/driver/BIOS issue and I'll leave that for others to disect.
GT-T 0 Posted June 2, 2004 Tried removing the files you recommended but with no luck. I guess I will have to be patient and hope for an answer soon. Thankyou again Avon for your help. Regards GT-T
theavonlady 2 Posted June 2, 2004 Tried it with and without unofficial addons and have the latest drivers installed. Also did a complete re-install and nothing has changed. Last try. Uninstall your Nvidia drivers, download and run Detonator RIP, reboot and install Nvidia drivers that are for your card.
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 2, 2004 Go into the ForceWare control panel and change the settings from "High Performance" to "Quality" or "High Quality".
the_shadow 0 Posted June 2, 2004 i got a little OT question.. what the heck does "geometry performance" do? i dont notice any difference... and again.. what settiongs should i use on a pc with following specs? AMD athlon 64 (2Ghz) 512Mb RAM (DDR Pc 3200) 128Mb radeon 9800 win XP home (does that really matter?) i do not have the latest drivers for my graphics card i think (should i D/L them?) Mister Frag 0 Posted June 2, 2004 Geometry performance is the relative performance of your system as determined by the Preferences program. The higher the number, the faster it is. Changing the number doesn't change how fast your system is, so there is little value in messing with it. I believe the only reason it can be changed is because the developers had some concern that it might not always accurately reflect the relative performance of all systems given the different processors and memory controllers out there, and since the Geometry Performance number pre-selects some of the other graphics options, they allow you to change it. Bumping up the number will choose more demanding graphics settings. You've got a fine system, although 512MB of RAM is not a whole lot these days. If you went for 1GB of dual-channel memory, you'd find performance jump quite a bit in OFP and everything else. You should be able to max out everything except for Terrain Detail (since that eats lots of memory).
the_shadow 0 Posted June 2, 2004 even viewdistance? i run at 2500 - 3000m viewdistance atm (depending on map) and everything else (exept terraindetail maxed) i have experimented with setting the viewdistance to 5000 but then my Fps dropped to around 10 (is about 25-30 now, somtimes up to 60-70 on smaller maps) but im happy with that for now, and yes.. the RAM is going to be incresed to atleast 1024 when i get a job ;) hopefully i can push it all the way up to 2gig but damnit, can´t microsoft release their 64bit OS soon so i can put it into my machine and use the full power of my cpu (eq 4Ghz P4)
Mister Frag 0 Posted June 2, 2004 The 64-bit version of XP is available for download (or can be ordered on CD if you wish) here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/downloads/upgrade.asp But I must warn you that you won't see any performance benefits until optimized 64-bit drivers for all your hardware are released, and until 64-bit applications appear. The 64-bit drivers from ATI and NVIDIA are sub-par at the moment, and only a handful of game publishers have committed to 64-bit versions of their upcoming games. As the owner of a 64-bit processor system, you are on the bleeding edge of technology. You paid quite a bit of money for the promise of performance increases that are only evident in a couple of select cases, and by the time that all the required pieces of the puzzle are in place, the rest of the computing world will buy higher-performance hardware for less. Being an early adopter rarely pays...
the_shadow 0 Posted June 2, 2004 hey, it was as cheap as a new P4 the reason i bought it was that it had top score in a test AND was cheap as hell compared what was in it... costed me just €1100 (elevenhundred Euro) and that was really a bargain
