You can't.. and it's more dangerous to look straight into the sun than people generally think.

I missed it. Another 8 years till it does it again then we wait 122 years.

@kegetys- Nice pic. Really show how big the sun is. Bow down in its power smile_o.gif

I followed Kegetys' idea, swiped a diskette off of someone's desk crazy_o.gif and snapped a photo outside. It's a beautiful clear day here.

I've got a great pic of the sun but no dot to be seen in it anywhere. sad_o.gif I even tried changing the pic's gamma and magnifying it but nothing shows. sad_o.gif

Stupid planets! mad_o.gif

I bet Keg had a stain on his lens and now he thinks he did a good job getting a picture of venus. wow_o.gif

Really show how big the sun is.

Our sun is a very common ordinary star called a Type G star. It is 870,000 miles in diameter and it weighs more than 1,334,000 Earths! it rotates on its AXIS, the imaginary line from one end to the other, one time every 27 days.

Giant and super giant stars are 100 to 200 times bigger than our sun. wow_o.gif If the Sun were replaced by a super giant star it would extend almost all the way out to Uranus.

(Snippets from astronomy websites).

Maybe my problem was that I used a 3.5 inch diskette, while Kegetys used an old 5 and a quarter inch floppy (Kegetys: destroyer of antiquities! mad_o.gif )

Actually, maybe the larger floppy's material is thicker than the smaller diskettes, cutting down more sunlight? rock.gif
