Mister Frag 0 Posted May 25, 2004 To start, hold down the Shift key when inserting your CD -- that will prevent the AutoRun program from launching. Since the contents of the CD can't change, the problem must be with your Windows installation itself. When did the problem start happening, and what changes have you made to your system around that time?
MoThUg 0 Posted May 25, 2004 well i had probs with my graphics card so i reforamtted about 3 times it started doing it on the second time i don't know wot i have done i am a plain n00b when it comes to computer work i just update don't really mess with it
Mister Frag 0 Posted May 25, 2004 When I get home, I'll have a look at the dependencies for the AutoRun program -- that will hopefully let us figure out what DLLs are bad or the wrong version.
Mister Frag 0 Posted May 26, 2004 OK, I've taken a look at AutoRun.exe on the Resistance CD, and the DLLs it requires are the following: * WINMM.DLL * KERNEL32.DLL * USER32.DLL * GDI32.DLL * COMDLG32.DLL * WINSPOOL.DRV * ADVAPI32.DLL * SHELL32.DLL * COMCTL32.DLL These are all standard Microsoft DLLs that come with the operating system. However, there are some issues that you should be mindful of: WINMM.DLL (the Windows Multimedia DLL) depends on RPC (Remote Procedure Calls). If you disabled the RPC service because of Sasser or some other worm, these calls will fail, and I'm not sure how WINMM or AutoRun would react. GDI32.DLL talks to the video driver, so if you have a bad driver, this could cause problems. Run DXDIAG.EXE and have it go through all of the test. COMDLG32.DLL implements the common dialogs that you see when opening files, saving files, printing etc. Occasionally an application will ship with COMDLG32.DLL because it depends on a specific version, and if this file is older than what was on your system to begin with, problems may arise. Check for different versions of this file that may live in different locations on your system. WINSPOOL.DRV is the interface to the print spooler. It is highly unlikely that this is actually ever used. ADVAPI32.DLL implements advanced APIs in Windows, and also depends on the RPC service. SHELL32.DLL is the Windows shell (not Explorer). It depends on RPC and also MSVCRT, the Microsoft Visual C/C++ runtime library. If an old version exists in a directory other than \windows\system32, problems could arise. COMCTL32.DLL contains common controls like progress bars, tab controls etc. Again, if an old version exists in a place other than \windows\system32, it could cause problems. Mister Frag 0 Posted May 26, 2004 Oh, one more thing. I would update to OFP:R V1.96, and try running that. I'm sure all your problems will magically disappear if you do. Trust me!
Placebo 29 Posted May 26, 2004 This really could have been continued in your other thread for the sake of clarity
MoThUg 0 Posted May 26, 2004 well am sorry but no one would listen in other thread plus its a different thing i have loads of probs an i will go the full leangth to fix em , thanx Mister Frag and is there any place i can download them dll files . i can't install ofp because of the autoload prob so i can't update to 1.
Placebo 29 Posted May 26, 2004 If you're having so many problems (especially with core MS files missing/corrupted) you may well be better off installing windows again rather than trying to solve each problem individually, which may be more problematic as well as far more time consuming
MoThUg 0 Posted May 26, 2004 i have done it 3 times, it use to work fine ,i aint played ofp for atleast 4 weeks an i miss it so much thats why i post so much

Mister Frag 0 Posted May 26, 2004 Do what I suggested earlier -- hold down the Shift key when you insert the CD, and it will prevent the AutoRun program from running automatically. You can then run the installation program manually. Hopefully that won't crash also. And if OFP:R is already installed and patched (I'm not clear on this, you didn't say what its status is), you should be able to just launch it at that point. MoThUg 0 Posted May 26, 2004 well i aint got no ofps installed because i reformated an since then it aint workin plus the shift thing works but when u run it from my computer it does same thing [autoload error]
Mister Frag 0 Posted May 26, 2004 Hold down the Shift key when inserting the CD, and in Windows Explorer, rather than double-clicking on the CD drive, right-click on it and choose "Explore". You can then browse the disk contents. Locate the installation program and double-click on it. I'm at the office and don't have access to the CD right now, but I'm pretty sure the installation program is called SETUP.EXE.
