Jmaster33 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Until recently my OFP has been working fine, but just suddenly it has just started crashing to desktop for no apparent reason. It stops doing it, and then it starts doing it again, it's at no particular time and it gives no error message. The last time it crashed was just before a Littlebird was about to hit the floor after being shot down. Just before it exploded, the game crashed. It isn't limited to before explosions though because it happened when I was driving a jeep, when I was driving a motorbike. It happens completely randomly, even when I am just walking on the game. I thought it might be a sound card problem so I switched to my onboard sound but to no avail, it still crashes. I thought it might be overheating but I now have 6 fans in/on my computer, so it can't be that. Then I thought my RAM might be broken so I ran MemTest which returned no errors. Although very very rarely, when I am booting up my ASUS motherboard informs me that "System failed memory test", but this is a very rare occurance, only about three or four times it has been said in a year. I can't seem to find any pattern to the crashing and I thought maybe someone could help me. My motherboard is an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, my graphics card is a GeForce FX5600, I have a single stick of 512mb RAM and an AMD3200+ CPU. I have had all of this stuff for about a year now so I haven't added any hardware recently. I tried increasing virtual memory as well, but that didn't work. I seem to be running low on ideas. bn880 5 Posted May 21, 2004 One thing that is always good to check are your voltage levels for CPU etc, install MotherBoard Monitor 5 and check that out, or in the BIOS. Also have a look at your motherboard for bad capacitors, they cause some problems under heavy peaks... search Google for bad motherboard capacitors and you will find a lot of info. However, I used to have similar problems, it was infact bad RAM. Try a different stick?
Mister Frag 0 Posted May 21, 2004 I don't think it's bad RAM -- if it were, you'd get a parity error and the entire system would blue-screen. Also, the log you posted indicates an access violation, so OFP or a DLL that it loaded is trying to access an address outside its own process space, or trying to write to a page containing code, for instance. While there may be some bugs left in OFP, it isn't known for just randomly crashing like that, so I would try reinstalling some of the other components that it depends on, such as the graphics and audio drivers (I know you mentioned you switched sound cards), and DirectX. Also, run a virus check to see if any of these files may have been modified.
Jmaster33 0 Posted May 21, 2004 I have reinstalled DirectX and my graphics and sound drivers. It's still crashing. Any other ideas? Thanks for the suggestions by the way.
shinRaiden 0 Posted May 21, 2004 What's your FSB and ratio? What speed is your ram running at? How much memory do you have on your video card? Which DLX board do you have? (I have DLX v2.0 and a -E DLX) What is your MB driver version? ----------------------------------- The nforce2 chipsets have a known issue with inadequate power supply to the AGP slot, check out the rather large thread on Gfx5600 cards. I have a 256mb card, and until I can cough of the dough to go and 'downgrade' to a 128mb card I'm stuck at 166x2x10. I have 2x512mb of ddr3200.
Jmaster33 0 Posted May 21, 2004 I think it's my RAM, OFP just blue-screened and rebooted the computer, followed by a start-up message of "System failed memory test".
shinRaiden 0 Posted May 21, 2004 Have you seen this in other games? I had repro's in Quake3, SOF2, Age of Empires, and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. Try this thread.
Jmaster33 0 Posted May 21, 2004 I only play OFP really, so I'm not sure. I ran MemTest but it said no errors, I'm still pretty confused tbh.
BraTTy 0 Posted May 22, 2004 Like ShinRaiden said... What speed is your memory running at? Getting the memory failed test I would try lowering the fsb speed on your ram, many motherboards allow you to change the ram speed
