Doc88 0 Posted April 25, 2004 All right, so I haven't played in a while (about half a year). Â Now I wanna' play again with some of these new addons and islands in my mission editor (I make my own missions, but they're of high enough quality to release to the public). Â Anyway, now I see that a lot of the addons are .rar, and though I know next to nothing about comp stuff, I seem to remember them being .pbo. Â All the .rar files won't work. Â For instance, Tonal Island, the updated version of Ilo Ilo Island, and other units and cars and planes will not work. Â How do I install .rar files? Â Please help, and sorry, but I'm just a musician. Â I don't know any technical stuff. Â Be kind. --Ed
killswitch 19 Posted April 25, 2004 Files ending in .rar are compressed archives just like .zip files. A popular program for handling both RAR,ZIP and other compressed file formats is WinRAR, available as a demo here. So what you need to do is to get WinRAR and then use it to open the .rar archives containing the actual .pbo addon files, unpack them and then install them into one of the OFP addons folders. Hope that helps! Regards
Gordy 0 Posted April 25, 2004 You ain't kiddin'? come on, havent't you heard about file compression? ZIP or WINZIP? RAR is the same stuff but better.
benu 1 Posted April 26, 2004 And keep in mind that there are at least 2 incompatble versions of rar around. Your unpacker should be able to unpack rar v3, if you only have rar v2 you will only get the first file of each rar v3 archive.

Gordy 0 Posted April 26, 2004 Perhaps you should get yourself a Total Commander. Application simmilar to Windows explorer but it contins the ability to unpack most of the compression formats. It has other usable contributes as well.
