Animated grass

I was thinking of making animated grass that uses the flag animation. I've looked through the config and it seems possible to make grass that waves in the wind but the problem is that I'm no config wizard. I just have some ideas.

The first lods would be animated while the following would be static. The final lod could be nothing so you dont see the grass at all at a distance of 100m. This would mean that you could hopefully cover a whole island with it.

Maybe someone with the right knowledge could tell if this is a stupid idea or if it's worth a try.

Give it a go. It will probably lag like a bitch, but it would be interesting to see.

Warning: flag animation is extemely CPU intensive. Before trying this, try placing many flags in the editor to check if the system is able to cope with this.

Exactly what I was waiting for biggrin_o.gifsad_o.gif

I had a test with many flags and yes it wasn't nice at all.

Perhaps I should make a more simple animation.. I know the engine isn't propably optimized for animated grass but I still want to see how it looks smile_o.gif

maybe have a look how fire is animated then use that. I think it may be the same as the flag tho and too cpu intensive. Or there is another way what i was thinking of and that is just having the grass swap textures and have about 6 different textures each with the grass blades at a different possition. These are just thoughts and i have no idea if they are possible rock.gif

Fire is animated by using the particle system......might look a little bit weird as grass wink_o.gif
