Quick space check before going prone

Like in some games like America's Army and Ghost Recon? there are limits to where you can go prone if there are too many walls around you. Preventing the player and ai from going prone if there is not enough space would fix alot of things like clipping through houses or having the ai go prone in the swamps of Tonal and drowning. Maybe if the avatar cannot go prone, it should go to a crouching position, indicating that it can go down further.

I'd rather they had the body twist to conform into the space than stopped anything going prone. There are virtually no situations IRL that you can't go prone in - especially if you're being shot at.

Having restrictions like that spoil the game.

Well, I prefer your idea but I wonder how hard it is to implement it. Ghost Recon kinda of did it.

Or the avatar could assume a tighter prone position which occupies the same area as a crouch position if it cannot fit the initial prone position.
