Black Knight 0 Posted November 9, 2001 I don't understand why we have to tell them what is wrong with the MP of OPF. Simply take a day, and try to play. They will imediatly know what the BIG problems are. This game was a dream come true. PLEASE fix this or i will die.
General Lag 1 Posted November 9, 2001 Rebuild the whole join thingy. The basic ideas wich it builds upon, are either wrong, bad or terrible implemented. If I would be responsible for such a mess in our final release, I could take my hat. Lucky me, I learned to think first, and code then. I assume you have the programming skill in your house to make some heavy work on this part. So realy the only thing to do is to make a good concept, make it consistent and fail safe. Main goals should be, easy handling, efficient joining, short joining, safe joining. You reach this with a "right to the point" interface and some "dumbest possible user" routines. General Lag 1 Posted November 9, 2001 And by the way. For anyone who does not know. Games die very fast, even if they have some good sales. Reasons are as simple as they are obvious. -The very same day your product gets out, a demo has to be there to show the main keys why you should buy it. -Basicly you need to deliver the functionality you promised latest within the first month. If BIS would only have done these two points, the game would not be death by now. You see, the problem is, that a game in order to be successfull in terms of half life, need to build a myth fast, before a game with a better engine and greater gameplay is out. And this is the very neckbreaker for Flashpoint.
Dawdler 0 Posted November 9, 2001 They released the demo some month before the release. The functionality thing we didnt get after 1 month. It was more like 2 months. It was a mistake to first release the EU version and then the US. They should have either released the EU version for all or the US version for all. Then they could patch it up. I was very dissapointed finding out that the EU version had practically zero netsupport.
suchey 0 Posted November 9, 2001 I certainly would not zip the bag on this game yet...in fact, as it is the 4th or 5th top selling game in the US right now, I would say far from it...I dont like the bugs any more than anyone else, however, lets all hold out and see what 1.3 brings...for those that had half-life early, you will remember that it took months before the game was even close to playable on line. Â I just hope that this game follows as I really enjoy it online. (Edited by Suchey at 7:27 pm on Nov. 9, 2001)
