Dashers 0 Posted March 14, 2004 Isn't that a bit much memory use? OFP 1.96 Beta Win2K SP4 - game was currently in the multiplayer main menu doing nothing at the time.
bn880 5 Posted March 14, 2004 No it's fine as far as I can tell... depends on what terrain detail you were playing at, and other stuff such as addons etc.
lee_h._oswald 0 Posted March 15, 2004 Are you using -nomap ?? MfG Lee
shinRaiden 0 Posted March 15, 2004 That's not bad at all... buuuuut... I presume you either have 512mb of REAL ram or less, or you have disabled your swap file. If it is the later, ok. If the former, you really need to clean house programswise. Steam, that's HL, not OFP. Turn it off. -nomap doesn't affect memory amounts in my experience, it only affects internal handling for more stability. Mozilla and winamp, geesh, are you listening to OFP or something else? One or the other. xtray, ytray, ztray... Otherwise, OFP looks reasonable. It actually feels like you are running at a lower terrain res and not a bunch of addons. Also, try killing stuff in your services control panel. How many times do you plan on printing while OFP is running? Thanks.
Placebo 29 Posted March 15, 2004 LOL yeah I'm real anal about all the crap that gets started up with windows once you've installed a few things, these days the only two things that boot with windows are the wireless keyboard app and a anti-spyware app. A real good tool for getting rid of a lot of the rubbish that starts with windows is "Startup Control Panel"
General Mcclintock 0 Posted March 15, 2004 I need no extra software to keep windows in line. All I need is what Windows themselves included, Msconfig. Start -> Run Type "Msconfig" without the quotes and voila. Anyways, I got EPoX USDM system monitor running (Don't want to fry my processor yet) SoundStorm utillity and some Hercules Smart TV stuff, part disabled, but thats it, got lots of memory, all I need to is to work on XP's internal functions, but I need to find a list first, don't want to run gung ho and disable something I need. lee_h._oswald 0 Posted March 15, 2004 Yes, but dasher has Win2K, there is no msconfig.exe on 2K. But you can copy the one from XP to 2K. MfG Lee
General Mcclintock 0 Posted March 15, 2004 I think there is one, but it goes under a different name? Not sure... It can help speeding up OFP that is.
shinRaiden 0 Posted March 15, 2004 Yep, not on 2K. It was a 9x tool they brought back in XP. One easy way, start OFP and the taskmanager and the services control panel mmc plugin. Then kill everything that you can in taskmanager, and everything that you can in services. You'll be offended and embarrassed at how much memory you save.
