DOA 21 Posted December 29, 2003 I rebuild a PC with Windows XP Pro. I do the windows updates and get the latest drivers installed, etc. I install Operation Flashpoint and patch it up to version 1.46, testing as I go, and all is well. As soon as I install Resistance, I can no longer start a MP server... I get hung on the screen that says creating client, then it crashes back out to the MP screen. with no player connected... I try a dedicated server and it attempts to start the server, then the mesage in the server window title bar displays "server failed". I went ahead and patched Resistance to 191 then to 194 beta, but still no server? I am able to join servers with this build but I can not start one. The exact verbage in the title bar of the server console window is "Server Creation Failed" :2303. TIA...DOA More info: I have been able to duplicate this issue on two machines. I am a network administrator with several spare machines on the work bench. Here is what I am doing: Fdisk hard drive install Windows XP Pro windows updates Latest video drivers from nVIDIA (Geforce3 ti 4200 and gforce4 ti 4600 3d cards cards) P4 cpu smallest one is 1.8 Ghz at least 256 RAM in each machine. Install Operation Flashpoint (from OFP Gold) V1.20 Install Gold Upgrade (From Gold Box) V1.30 Install OFP Patch 1.46 Up to this point I can click new in MP on LAN or Internet and start a server with myself connected. Install Resistance v1.75 At this point when I start resistance and go to multiplayer then click new, it switches to a screen and seems to be forzen on "Creating Client" I never see the creating server screen. It takes a few seconds then switches back to the MP screen where you can click on join or new. The internet games refresh and I can join games I just can't start a "new" one. I have patched Resistance to 191 and then to beta 194 but I have the same issue I have installed all the patches CWC/Res compatibility, Red Hammer Compatibility, stand alone servers, etc. None of the patches help me. I have followed this install build sucessfully on other machines with the same OS etc? It must be something on these machines... I am guessing it is some sort of registry hack or a networking issue? TIA...DOA
DOA 21 Posted December 31, 2003 I'm getting closer... I wiped one of my test machines hard drives and tried it again, this time with Windows 2000. I get the same result. Works fine until I install Resistance; then, I lose the ability to start a new multiplayer game, LAN or Internet, Host or Standalone...I tried to start a New MP game using directplay and it works...So I now believe it is a sockets issue...I will research, test and post the results here...DOA
ralphwiggum 6 Posted December 31, 2003 do you have a firewall up? could be that.
DOA 21 Posted December 31, 2003 Thanks for helping out Ralph. I don't think the firewall is the issue. I have other machines with the same build of OFP/Res that work fine when starting a new LAN or Internet game set on sockets. I can start a new MP game set on directplay on my trouble machines, but not set on sockets... You should be able to start a new multiplayer game even if you are not connected to a network at all. (as in the case of my laptop). I do this all the time to test custom missions I am editing.
bn880 5 Posted December 31, 2003 I have this wild thought: make sure your computer network name does not contain special characters like numbers, spaces etc.
Bergmania 0 Posted December 31, 2003 Had a simillar problem before.. Trend Micros PC-cillin 2003 was the problem.. the firewall in that product was active even when turned off in the config..
DOA 21 Posted December 31, 2003 Trouble shooting is my life. I had this issue a machine or two ago and wiping the HD and rebuilding it fixed everything. This time I have tried WinXP and Win2000 with and with out the windows updates and patches and the only thing I can find is that I can start a new mp game in directplay but not in sockets. I am currently learning more about winsock. I will post any resolution I may discover. Thanks much for all your help. It is appreciated...DOA
