Green beret addons and new anims

Recommended Posts

Nice idea for an add on, I would like to see these units made.

Credit where credit is due, these guys where at the sharp end in the 'war on terror' in Afghanistan.

I saw a programme on the BBC recently documenting a Green Beret unit  post 'Task Force Dagger',in Afghanistan. Most of these guys had civillain jobs, and where part timers, but ex SOF. One was even claimed to be a NASA scientist!

Anyone interested in making these units or using them in missions might find inspiration in a book called Task Force Dagger-The Hunt for Bin laden. by Robin Moore. Its reveals some SOPS of the Green Berets, but perhaps take some of the stories with a pinch of salt, a good read none the less.

The beards are for blending in, back in 2002 the commander of American forces in Afghanistan ORDERED all SF soldiers to get rid of the beards since it was not professional looking.

George

Yea right, i'd like to see someone actually tell theSF soldiers in Iraq that they were ORDERED to shave thier beards off. SF soldiers, from whati have seen on Fort Lewis (1st SFG), they do pretty much what they wanna do, they can carry thier weapons in there own POV's, they can go and check out demolitions at thier own free will just to go blowshit up. When they get a mission, they go and do it, and come back, no sitting around fgor a coiuple days wondering whats going to happen. They know thedeal, and get it done.

I'll try to find the report, but this order was issed, in Afghanistan NOT Iraq, after several famous picture shortly after one of the assassination attempts of Afghanistan's Interim President Hamid Karzai. I even remember watching a Larry King Live at the time and they were talking about how the Army was requiring the Special Forces soldiers too look 'more professional.' Personally I think the order was BS, I think the beards are necessary for them to accomplish their mission since a beard is part of the Muslim culture, pretty much required for acceptance.

PS I'm trying to find an article that states that SF soldiers in Afghan were told to remove the beards and look a bit more professional.

ON TOPIC: It would be nice to get soldiers with SF tab and patch on their shoulder. In the mean time I just use Covert BAS Rangers and slap a patch on them.

Quote[/b] ]3) No matter how hard he tries (unless its in his geens) a caucasian (european/american) white male is never ever going to look like a middle-eastern male, as the skin tone, bone structure etc are completely different.

Afghans arent arabs. They are actually caucasian(ish) so SF units could somewhat blend in if they dressed as the locals do...providing they aren't wearing Oakley's etc etc

EDIT: Now Iraq would be a bit different on the other hand. You'd have to dress like a woman to blend in there.

I think it was the same program I saw.

I realy don't think that you remove your body amor befor or when you are making CQB which was I think was what these guys in afghanistand made the most when they raided towns.

haha, the US has part time 'special' forces. It really does degrade the whole idea of it. Next they will have a immigrant SF unit, and a diabetic one and of course the home special forces, give any US citizen an M4 sopmod if he/she wants it smile_o.gif

those part ime sfs

are usually civil affairs which deals with rebuilding or helping reconstruct villages after a war

such as engineers and doctors

while full time do harder work such as recon, info gathering at time where is conflict

part time sf go after the fight has been finished or before it occurs to be friends with villages

read tom clancys special forces to understand them

the book gave alot of information on the green berets and how they are not rambos wat so ever

Well Jinef the original 10th Special Forces Group back in the 1950's was comprised of a large number of East European immigrants, this was permitted under the Lodge Act, which allowed immigrants of persecuted countries to become American citizens if they served in the US Armed Forces. Also if you read my post again you will see that I said that the 19th and 20th SFG's have FORMER ACTIVE DUTY SF soldiers. As in they did their time on active duty, got out and got jobs in the private sector, yet still want to be 'Green Berets' but only part time.

Some members of 21st Special Air Service Regiment (Artists) (Volunteers) and 23rd SAS were also were rumored to have deployed to Afghanistan in support of the 22 SAS. I dont see how this can degrade the idea of having SF. Due to operational comittments around the world man power is going to be strained. Im pretty confident no country would send some reservist couch potato, lard arse into a situation they wouldnt be deemed suitable for.

Also regards the infamous order of the removal of the beards. This order was apparently given by a 'conventional Army' US General who took over the operations in Afghanistan. He was a bit perturbed by the TV footage being shown of some fat geezer with a beard who the media assumed was SF, but in fact wasnt. He thought it was giving the US Forces a bad image, so promptly gave the order to remove beards.
