Javelin  and  predator

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,   Is anyone making or has maded the Javelin or the new Predator. The Javelin is a portable fire and forget medium anti-tank weapon system designed to pierce many types of armor.  It has a  onboard homing device or is laser guided to target.

Or the new Predator  ( New LAW ).   It has more fire power than the AT-4, LAW, or other systems of it's size.

Kegetys & Armourdave made a Javelin quite a while ago,its included on their Addon collection v1.2 ,but i think ull need to dload the Javelin fix (or not...) to run it on newer OFP versions, im not sure, anyways, go to Kegetys page and look around.

Edit: Just remembered...when using the Javelin...AIM HIGH!!! In RL this AT missile hits tanks on a downward trajectory...same in OFP tounge_o.gif

Think I read somewhere that that Javelin/T72 demonstration was phooey as the T72 was rigged with HE to make the Javelin appear much more powerful than it really was. Not to say it wouldn't have taken out the tank - it would - but just not so spectacularly.

Kegetys' Javlin is great if a human player is using it, but unfortunately because of the way it works the AI can't fire it at all. Because of this I prefer the Frenchpoint Eryx, which in OFP terms is much the same as the Javelin but can be used by the AI. It also looks vaguely like one, unlike Keg's which just uses the BIS AT4 launcher as it was made pre-O2.

The Frenchpoint Eryx is definately my favourite OFP AT weapon...It's soooo satisfying watching your missile streak towards its target and I love the way you can change your mind after you've fired it, like if your team mate suddenly screams that it's him you're aiming at biggrin_o.gif

D'oh, and about the Predator, I thought someone was asking for the Predator UAV, which would also be cool smile_o.gif

Hi Architeuthis, as far as I know the AT-4 was put into service before Desert Storm, as far as the LAW it was still in use then at basic training. Like every thing the army has they would rather store them or use for training, and sometimes sell to other nations. But with the RPG in wide spread use and easier to get. That's why its the choice of most nations. Hope this Help you some.

I bet a lot of ANG units still use it. I remember seeing some pics of NJANG units in summer training last year and some guys were carrying LAWs and using M16A1s. Im not sure of the unit I think it was the 114th Infantry out of Fort Dix. Not totally sure though.

I know some guys from the 10th Mountain Division who said that they used the LAW in Afghanistan because it was lighter (which is a BIG deal to grunts - especially if you're operating up in the mountains of Afghanistan) than the AT4 and because they didn't have to worry about killing tanks. When they used it, they used it against buildings or caves.

Makes sense. Using an AT-4 against a mud house is like, as Tex [uSMC] one put it "Swatting flies with a Cadillac".

I would have thought that light anti-tank weapons such as the LAW and AT4 wouldn't be that effective against troops in buildings and caves as their incendiary properties are quite low (i.e. they don't make a big bang with lots of shrapnel). Is there such a thing as an anti-infantry rocket launcher in use by the US?

I know that a new type of Hellfire was used in OIF, the thermobaric Hellfire which is basically used as a FAE (Fuel Air Explosive) munition against infantry...

Canadians used the Carl Gustav as a bunker buster in Afghanistan. . . of course, it's essentially a recoilless rifle in RL (unlike in OFP). . . It has a fairly wide range of ammo types.

The US uses it as well.
