Question about retexturing cDLC content

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is any way to create new textures (or retexture) content of cDLC's? As far as I am aware, all content from cDLC's is locked within encrypted EBO files. Does this mean there is no way of accessing the textures used?
More specifically, I am creating a new faction with retextured vehicles and was looking to include two helicopters from the Reaction Forces cDLC. As all other helicopters (I.E., from the base game and its expansions) are getting custom liveries with appropriate decals/insignia, I wanted to do the same for the Cougar and Hellcat.

All compatibility data patches on the Steam Workshop state that "[insert cDLC name] is a paid DLC and can be modded by the community like any other Arma 3 vanilla content." How do I go about doing this if the content is locked behind these encrypted files?

I want to make it clear that I am not looking for a way of circumventing restrictions that the developers of the cDLC's have put in place (if these do exist), as I think that would be fair (it is their content after all). I am just wondering if there is something that I am missing and if there is actually a way of retexturing/editing the liveries included in the cDLC's.

Any help would be appreciated; both pointing me in the right direction for how to do this or for pointing out that it is, in fact, not allowed.

Cheers.

Yes. However, some cDLCs do have so-called "Compatibility Addons" available on the workshop with lower resolution textures that allow for people to "try before they buy". Assuming those are not also encrypted, you could potentially acquire the rough UV maps that way, upscale the texture and re-make it that way. It would be a lot of work.

A quicker and much easier method would be to email the devs as they may allow you access to those particular textures - emphasis on "may"...

Lexx posted a link to sample textures and templates for Western Sahara 1.0 when the DLC was new. There was no re-release of the samples for WS 1.1 new content, but he said to contact him on Discord regarding those. I'd assume it's the same with Reaction Forces.

Oops! I forgot to include it in my post, but unfortunately, yes, the compatability addon for for Reaction Forces is also encrypted.

I guess contacting the devs would indeed be my best bet. Thanks!

Thank you for your response. I think this is indeed my best course of action. The idea of just sending a dm to (one of) the dev(s) via discord did not really occur to me for some reason.
