Guest Posted December 27, 2001 And not just for show either, I just got done reading Blackhawk Down and there are several descriptions in the book where donkeys and cows get rip to shreads by the Blackhawk's miniguns. So me and my twisted blood - thirsty brain chuged up a wicked idea. Have farm animals in OFP that can be used as target practice!
Damage Inc 0 Posted December 27, 2001 No not really...
John C Flett 0 Posted December 27, 2001 Not sure I want animals for target practice but the occasional bird or the like to give a show of life. It would be great sitting on guard duty near a forest when all of a sudden a flock of birds took off scaring the crap out of everybody.
theavonlady 2 Posted December 27, 2001 Ah! Brings back memories of the birds in Delta Force 1 and 2 SP missions that often indicated the presence of people in the vicinity below where they hovered.
CanisDEK 1 Posted December 27, 2001 No really I don't want any more info to be transferred between servers and clients.
eyes 0 Posted December 27, 2001 Birds startled by the people (thus giving away their presence) was in Deus Ex and it was very well done. Animals, such as cows would be a good additions - remember the machine gun assault in Saving Private Ryan where they use cow corpses for cover, would be good cover in open fields. You wouldn't have to include these things in internet games, you could just use them in sp and lan games. However asking for animals just for target practice is a bit sick - you may as well ask for the scientists from Half Life, god knows how many times I shot them (the best time was when I put a laser trip mine on a scientists head )
Thehamster 0 Posted December 27, 2001 You could use the animals for planning your assaults like the did in Three Kings and the cow stepped on a cluster bomb very funny scene.
SilentSnipeR 0 Posted December 27, 2001 lol, that was funny, and you don't expect the cow to just explode Farm animals would be cool for lan game, of course have an option to to turn them off

It can´t be that much of a problem to make the host able to turn wild life on or off depending on bandwith. I would love to see it. As it is now, the world of OFP looks too real not to include some kind of wild life. As long as you don´t see any kind of movements except the sun, moon, stars, ocean and people / vehicles, the world of OFP looks static and *shudder* unreal. They managed to make it look so real, not seing any kind of animals is a (tiny) disappointment :-) Something for OFP 2 I guess. Hope they will include it by then, would be a valuable option, at least, something that you can turn off if you want. Hidden

Most people wouldn't figure it out. They'd obviously hear the owl, but not figure out that it means the enemy is near.

Krull SGC 0 Posted December 28, 2001 Why didn't French soliders have relations with women like service men of every other country during WWII??? Seriously though, actual dynamic farm/wildlife would be a sound idea in principle, but I think that ultimately they would get in the way, and battlefields would get littered with dead animals and soliders pretty quickly, not to mention the number of roadkills the AI drivers would cause, and it possibly could also drag down performance if not used sparingly. Now static animals as a form of scenery, such as dead cows and so on might be useful, but how about haybails instead its much more tasteful.
madmike 0 Posted December 28, 2001 It may be posible to make haybails, theres bound to be an object the right size that can be retextured
