Gamer 10 Posted December 30, 2001 ok New System: P4 1.8Ghz ....................................much better than what you had 32MB AGP Graphics (unnamed!) ....................probably a GF2 mx400 or radeon7500(but doubt it) 512MB Ram (would that be RD Ram?) ........................Yes onboard WaveTable 32 Sound ...........disable this A.S.A.P and put in the audigy card in this machine! DVD/CDRW combined drive .....................standard 40GB HD ............................................sufficient is this motherboard anygood? SIS 650 Motherboard ............................dont expect it to do anything more than provide stability..... (i.e. trying  overclocking will be frustrating)
Mister Frag 0 Posted December 30, 2001 The SIS 650 is a motherboard design without the Intel blessing that uses DDR RAM, not RDRAM. Most people won't notice the difference in memory bandwidth, and it allows you to use the much-cheaper DDR333/DDR266/PC133 RAM. Nice system.
GFX707 0 Posted December 30, 2001 Lol, knowing SiS, your 32MB AGP (unnamed) graphics card is probably some onboard piece of s**t that will leave you completely screwed because the system doesnt have an AGP slot!!!!
Mr Z 0 Posted December 30, 2001 ok when the system arrives (about a week) I will inform you all about the names for the Graphics! and whether or not it has AGP! (Edited by Mr Z at 3:39 pm on Dec. 30, 2001)
Mister Frag 0 Posted December 30, 2001 I don't think GFX707 was serious, you would have to go out of your way these days to find a non-AGP graphics card. The SiS 650 does have an on-board VGA controller with up to 64MB of shared framebuffer memory, but it also supports AGP 1x/2x/4x with FastWrites. The most popular OEM graphics chipsets are made by NVIDIA, ATI, and PowerVR Technologies (Kyro), respectively, so I'm sure you'll get a fairly decent card. WisdoM 1 Posted December 30, 2001 Oh man you will notice a #### of a difference. specially with a CPU power hungry game like OFP. belive me you'll be more than satisfied, you'll probably wet yourself . I personally don't like Intel(this arguement can on for days, and has often times.) I would have gone teh AMD route, as they are cheaper and most times better. But you still have a good system, could have saved a little money but hey, it's till good

GFX707 0 Posted December 31, 2001 no, his description said '32mb AGP graphics' which is one of the most common ways of misleading you into thinking that an onboard crappo chip is actually a geforce or something. Seen people fall for that one lots of times
Mister Frag 0 Posted December 31, 2001 I just re-read the original post, and you are correct. I completely missed that! And the SiS 650 does have a built-in video solution that uses a shared framebuffer, but as far as I know it isn't limited to 32MB -- I would thing that they would have touted it as a 64MB 'thing' if that is what they were selling, simply because it is more impressive than 32MB.
