bad idea or knot?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I went down to my friends house the other day, we both have Ofp and he wanted me to teach him how to fly those A-10 thunderbolts. So once I got there and we went to his computer room he moved his mouse to get it off the sleep mode and i noticed this little tan screen on his monitor. I looked at it and it had something to do with a dedicated server. So i asked him about it and he said that multiplayer worked fine even while he was hosting the server. My question is, is it truely possible for me to do the same as him with out messing up myy computer or some thing? Thanks

I think hes talking about hosting an OFP dedicated server and playing on the same machine as the host....

he makes almost no sense...

Hmmm..... somehow the original subject seems to have gotten lost in the sauce.

The whole idea of a dedicated server is to improve performance for clients connecting to it.

Running OFP's DSS along with a copy of OFP client on the same machine intuitively sounds worse than just running the standard OFP program to act both as client and server.

Did I understand the issue correctly?

Now I'm lost again. Do what the same? Run the DSS and play OFP or other games on the same dedicated server machine?

Again, this contradicts the whole benefit of running a dedicated server. The more things running on a dedicated server, the more risk of resource contention, memory corruption and system failure. They don't call it dedicated for nothing.

Did I still not get your drift?

I know its dedicated, but my friend and I were playing Operation Flashpoint, On his Dedicated server with other people. I want to do the same, but I don't know if my computer can handel that. .... My computer is a Compaq persario if u need to get technical. Also I Know he dosen't have a server, but he was using the dss of his main frame computer (some dell model).

P.S I'm sorry to say, but though i'm from Israel, i moved to america from there when I was 3 years old, so I don't know much language. But I'm WILLING TO LEARN!!! smile.gif
