Cannot create 3d device

Recommended Posts

Hey, I downloaded the Detonator 40 geforce drivers and now i get this error message every time i try to start ofp:r :

Cannot create 3D device:

Adapter 0(NVIDEA DeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X) Fullscreen

Resolution 1024x768, format X8R8G8B8/D24S8, refresh 0 Hz

Error D3D ERR_INVALIDCALL

I did a search and tried most of the things and none of them worked sad_o.gif

I also did the "Test Direct 3D" test using the DirectX Diagnostic tool and this is what i got for all 3 tests:

-Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

-Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)

-Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)

My specs.

Win 98 SE

1.4ghz

512 ddr

Geforce 4 128mb with 8x AGP

Any ideas on what I can do?

Sounds like your DirectX has gone fubar, often when installing new gfx drivers you have to install the latest Directx again.

What I did was installed the drivers for my gfx card first, and then I installed Direct X 9a to see if that would fix my problem, but it didn't sad_o.gif

Try to uninstall DirectX ( for example by DirectX Buster ) and graphic card drivers at same time without restart, than restart and install it.

hmmm the thing is, when I try to reinstall my driver I get a stack overflow error. Is there a way I can uninstall my VGA driver? And about that DirectX 9a, will that DirectX buster take it out or will it only take out DirectX 8.1?

I somehow uninstalled my vid card driver (with a little trouble) and installed it again. Now it all works good, I guess i just can't use the Detonator 40 drivers.

for the VGA information it says:

Bios Version 4.28.20.05.11

And for Driver information it says:

Display driver: 4.13.01.3100

Is that what you want?
