A free server monitoring/joining tool

Recommended Posts

OFP Watch solves one of the biggest hassles with playing OFP & Resistance in multiplayer. It does the waiting for you for the next game to start. When using OFP Watch you will no longer need to alt+tab back and forth to check and the risk of missing the next mission start is minimized.

It will notify you when the selected sever changes status with a sound. It can also automatically start OFP/Resistance and log on to the server once the current game goes to de-briefing or is reassigned.

I wrote this tool for my own personal pleasure but soon it became very popular among OFP-friends due to its ease of use. All you need is the IP (or fqdn) of your favorite server to get started. This encouraged me to release and promote it to the community.

OFP Watch home: http://www.binarybone.com/ofpwatch/

The server admin is doing maintenance so the page is currently offline. www.ofpnam.com got OFP Watch mirrored in their download section.

Greetings,

Certa

Fully agree, this is a very nice "low fat" utility that no MP OFP'er should miss... Wished we had it since day one since it will make things so much more pleasant when waiting for OFP servers to restart a game. Great job Certa!

BTW, after testing it briefly I have a tiny request. Would it be possible to have an optional pop-op window that stayed up for 5-10 seconds (and then dissapear) parallell to the notification voice? This since I usually have my headphones plugged in instead of speakers and while I wait the headphones are on the desk.

I guess you are auto-hiding your task bar? The minimized window does flash when the status changes but I must confess I didn't think if hidden task bars. I'll try to come up with something to solve this. Perhaps something simple as restoring and bringing the ofpwatch window back on top.

Nope, I don't have auto-hiding since I'm running Windows 98 SE. I didn't notice the taskbar flashed at all? It only changed the color once...

Anyway if you find a way to implement a (optional) pop-up

window or any other improvements to this nice little program let us know. Thanks again!

how is this different from the ofplauncher made by kegetys?

OFP Watch announce when a game ends/starts etc. so if you join a server that have a game-in-progress you can safely Alt-TAB out to desktop and do other things instead of hanging around in the dull OFP interface while the other players are finishing the mission.

Then as soon they are done with the mission OFP Watch will notify you and you can Alt-TAB back and join next game.

Kegetys Launcher and my OFP Watch have been developed independently and got different approaches towards similar problems.

The Launcher is great for easy launching with or without different addons. The later versions can even query/monitor dedicated resistance servers (can query 1.46 dedicated servers if you tweak and subtract 1 from the port number).

OFP Watch was written just for querying servers so this was the main focus. It can query and launch for both flashpoint and resistance, dedicated or non-dedicated servers.

If you play resistance, use the tool you feel most comfortable with, I'm not into competition here. If you are one of those unfortunate 1.46 online players I recommend OFP Watch.

---

The OFP online community is not very large and sometimes I get the feeling most are fanatic addon designers :-)

Not so technically interested players have trouble logging on to servers due to missing addons. In order to make the addon experience easier and help keep the community alive I'm planning to integrate automatic addon detection, optional download and installation into OFP Watch.

I know how to solve this but I'm not sure I'm willing to invest the time programming it for a shrinking community. What do you people think?

Hopefully, all these problems will be solved in Flashpoint 2 in about 18 months.

Didn't know that OFP Launcher was able to monitor servers, long time since I tested it. Anyway, OFP Watch works great for my needs.

Verified.

OFP Watch receives two packets of data back from the server. One packet say 1.91 and the other 1.85 .. I'll just let it display the other one. Will be corrected in the next version. The current version of OFP Watch is 0.93.

Shouldnt it display the 1.85 also? You can join a 1.91 server using if your still using 1.85. Required version is really 1.85.
