302_Dragon 0 Posted June 11, 2003 Ok I've read through all the posts here and all the FAQ on AvonLady's website, but I still can't make sense of this. I have two Windows XP systems that are routed through a netgear router. My main computer has the modem through it and I can set up a dedicated server no problem. Now when I try to it from my other computer that is connected through the router it doesn't show up. I'll break it down real simple is there anyone out there that can make a step by step tutorial on setting up a dedicated server through a router (I know there is one out there but it is for wireless and doesn't work on hard line...I tried) All of the posts that I've read have just bits and peices and for the total rock (me) to figure out whats heads or tails is like decyphering hiroglyphics. Can someone please help me out...I suck when it comes to network settings and I don't want to mess anything up by doing something wrong. Also during some researching of the matter I found a nice little program for getting your IP address...it's here (WntIpcfg_setup.exe) on my site for download if you want it. Oh and anyone who writes this tutorial I will post it on my website as well for others, in the family of the rock, that I come from
crashdome 3 Posted June 12, 2003 What model is your netgear? Are you using a dial-up connection? Need more info.
302_Dragon 0 Posted June 12, 2003 I use a Cable connection and my netgear is a EN 104TP. It's a 4 port Hub.
crashdome 3 Posted June 13, 2003 Good news and Bad news.... Bad news: You have a hub, not a router = big difference. You should consider abandoning the hub and getting a router w/ a firewall if you are intent on hosting a public dedicated server. Good news: You can still host, but you need to engage WinXp's internet sharing and firewall to open up the ports. In essence, your main computer will become the router. There was a tutorial on that somewhere around here.... hmmm.... now where'd it go?
302_Dragon 0 Posted June 13, 2003 ok the internet sharing has been on the whole time as well as the firewall....so you said there was a tutorial?
crashdome 3 Posted June 13, 2003 I looked around and couldn't see it.. but try this right away: Enable Internet Connection Firewall (on both comps) then open up the Internet Connection Firewall settings Then under "tasks" click "Change settings of this connection" under the "services" tab click ADD enter a description like "OFP PORT1" enter the IP of the comp w/ the ded server under ports use 2302 and select UDP you must also do the same for port 2303 (call it "OFP PORT2") and you should be good to go (if you have proper IP settings and such - which I assume because you have had them connected this whole time)
302_Dragon 0 Posted June 13, 2003 would this be under TCP/IP Filtering where I add the ports?

joltan 0 Posted June 13, 2003 You know of any good routers? SMC routers are fine, too - I got a barricade 4-port router/switch. Very nice, even came with a build in print server (i.e. you can connect a printer to it and access it from all connected machines), firewall and more nice stuff.
