joltan 0 Posted May 20, 2003 Hey, I have a bit of a weird problem lately: I can't see computers listed in my hosts.txt or start a local server. Internet MP works like a charm with the ingame browser, though. It worked fine until some time ago, and even a complete reinstall of the game didn't fix it. I'm behind NAT, but that worked fine before and the respective ports are routed directly to my machine anyways. Also that shouldn't keep me from starting the local host, right? The personal firewall has all ports open for OFP (ZoneAlarm, server allowed also for non-trusted zone), and I used that firewall for ages now, never interfering with the game in any ways. As it is now it is even impossible for me to even get into the mp editor (as you have to start a local host for that). The game starts the host, then displays "creating client" and after a while falls back to the server selection. No error messages, no rpt-file, nothing... Any ideas what might be causing this? I run V1.91, but I don't think it's caused by the game at all. The firewall settings should be ok, too (all ports open for this application), and the NAT shouldn't influence the local host either. Also the ingame browser works fine on the 'internet' setting - it's just the lan setting and the local host that aren't working. System: Athlon XP 1700, 1GB ram, 100mbit lan (behind NAT), Win XP Pro (Windows XP's native firewall not activated). Edit: I should add that connecting directly using 'remote' and entering IP&port manually doesn't work either...
Mister Frag 0 Posted May 20, 2003 Have you looked at the Log screen in ZoneAlarm to see if it is blocking any traffic? Clear the log prior to starting OFP, then have someone try to connect, and see if anything new shows up.

It seems at some point I forbid Internet servers, and as I didn't declare my subnet as the trusted zone Zone Alarm blocked all access even to/from the local IP... Must have happened when I updated the firewall some weeks ago. That's why the client that gets created when the local host is running couldn't start!
