Donnervogel 0 Posted May 4, 2003 Ok I have this strange Problem with OFP for some time now and I didn't find any thread about it, The Problem only occurs when I am moving in ground vehicles at high speed or in larger convoys. The faster the Vehicle is the sooner I crash to desktop. It doesn't happen with really slow vehicles. And it doens't happen when I'm flying with helos or planes. Does anybody know about this problem? Actually I tried everything to solve it. A complete reinstall of my system and defragmentation of the hard disk helped slightly. Now It takes some more time until I crash. Actually I don't think it can be solved and I've never heard that anyone else has this problem. It appears to be a specific problem with my system. I write this just to report that problem. It didn't happen on my old computer (AMD Thunderbird Processor and ASUS A7V Board and Creative Live! Player Soundcard). Now I have a faster AMD XP processor and a NForce2 Board with onboard sound (ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe). I still have the same GeForce 3 Graphics card. I have a Windows 2000 System and OFP Res 1.91 (but it happens OFP in 1.46 too) And yes everything was tested with differend drivers and with the newest available drivers. Now I am using DX 8.1 but I had the same problem with DX 9. The odd thing is that is only happens in ground vehicles. I have two theories: 1. It's some sort of hardware-OFP incompability. 2. It's a hardware only problem, but then I can't explain why it doens't happen in other games and why only in ground vehicles. I even tried to fly with helos 1 m over the ground as fast as I could (obviously I crashed very often *G) and it didn't happen. Anybody heard about soemthing like this? suma 8 Posted May 5, 2003 The most efficient help for crashing is here and there.
Donnervogel 0 Posted May 5, 2003 Yes I tried all the tipps available. Nothing helped. The only thing I didn't do is e-mailing you because I wanted to ask if anybody heard about the problem first.

Are your system's BIOS, on-board sound and chipset components all updated with the latest patches/upgrades? Just my intuition.
Donnervogel 0 Posted May 5, 2003 yes and tested with older versions too... I found out something new. It has something to do with loading forrests. I drove trough half nogova and nothing happened until I came to a part with some forrests. then it started to buck everytime a forrest part was loaded until it crashed to desktop. terrain detail did not influence it. I tried all form highest to lowest. The same fits for screen resolution.

Donnervogel 0 Posted May 5, 2003 hmmm looks very similar now that I know of the forrest problem. But ASUS Probe (monitoring software) ist not influencing it. Infact it took less time until I crashed without ASUS Probe running. Well actually I can't confirm that any program running in the background that I know of is causing it. EDIT: But I want to emphasise that I have absolutly NO performance problems with the game appart from this problem. And also when I am moving on foot or flying, the problem does not occur. Through my many aimless adventures trying to get OFP: Res to work, that is one thing I stumbled upon. Vehicles and HW T&L don't mix, at least with my old GF3 Ti500 and my 2500+/A7N8X Dlx/1024MB Corsair. Got my Radeon 9700 Pro and got a whole new pile of problems. Donnervogel 0 Posted May 7, 2003 Hmm thank you. It helped. It's still bucking sometimes but it doesn't crash to desktop. The funny thing is I was sure that it happened even with T&L on because that was the first thing I tried when the problem occured. But somehow that slipped trough. No Idea what I did wrong then. However thank you very much. But BI should fix this for OFP2

Donnervogel 0 Posted August 11, 2003 Sorry for digging up this old thread. I just wanted to say that the problem has gone away with the newest chipset drivers (Nforce2) from Nvidia. I thought it's worth to mention it.
